That seems like a rather strange comment.

You DO want grocery stores and convenience stores to exist, yes? Yes.

Okay, now that we've established that, someone has to work them. Not everyone can get high paying "white collar" jobs, that require advanced degrees from a university. In fact, that's a problem many young people are finding - they finish University and find out there's no demand for their skills, and end up working at Starbucks anyway.

Not to mention, you need to build work experience and skills, before you can get a good job (unless you're stupid lucky and/or know someone who can just hand you a job you didn't earn). Places like Grocery stores, convenience stores, fast food restaurants, retail clothing outlets, etc, are great places to build experience, while you're in high school, or going to college/university.

I'm not ashamed that I've worked at 2 different fast food restaurants, and a cafe. Nor should anyone else. If you decide to make a career out of that kind of work? Sure, that's your choice. But most people who work at these places aren't even making careers out of it, they're just young and need a job - any job.

I'd rather someone work at McDonald's then sit on their ass at home on welfare.

You are most likely not built for that kind of work; this is what I eluded to before in that it takes a special breed of person to be able to do that type of job and not go off the rails.
Of course you should try. As long as you come across confident and enthusiastic it may be enough to bridge the experience gap.

Just watch any browsing the dark web series on YouTube to get a feel of what it's like. You can buy pretty much anything from there from baking supplies to guns. Parts of the deep web are pretty harmless and some sites are even accessible from the clear web, but dig too deep and you'll come across some shady shit.
Unless you're actively searching for bad stuff, you probably wont find it.

My best guess is probably because of processing fees and profit losses. When you buy a game with a CC/Debit card Steam is charged a fee, they also get charged a fee when you issue a refund.

I don't know exact numbers, but as an example lets say that the processing fee is 0.20% and you're buying a game that is $10.

    1. You buy the $10 game, Steam is charged 2 cents. So Steam made a $9.98 profit.
    2. You request a refund, Steam is charged another 2 cents and refunds your $10. Steam is now at a -$0.04 loss.
    3. The game goes on sale for $5, you buy it. Steam is charged 1 cent, 5 cent loss so far. Steam is now at a $4.95 profit.

It doesn't seem like much, but now add in 10,000 people doing the exact same thing. That's $500 loss, $49,500 profit.

Now if you weren't able to refund and you had to stay with your $10 purchase, Steam would be at a $80,000 profit, plus however many more people would buy the game at the price point of $5. Also don't forget Steam has to pay the publishers/developers as well, and the processing fees are cut out of Steam's profits, not anybody else's.

Steam probably made this decision based on scenarios like this. The Summer Sale 2015 had flash sales and refunds(IIRC), so it was probably the deciding factor for Steam to decide whether or not to keep flash/daily/community deals. So it must have cost Steam enough money to warrant the change.

TL;DR: Steam gets charged processing fees and if everyone refunded their purchases when a game goes on a deeper discount then Steam makes less profit and hurts them in the long run.

The only way to "fix" this is to block people from buying a game they just refunded for a certain period of time(which kinda contradicts why Steam created the refund system) OR make customers pay transaction fees(which I don't think consumers would be too happy about this). Well, if the transaction fees are really part of the decision that was made...

Some kind of reward or treat.

Treat yourself. IDK what you like to eat but for example. You could buy some chocolate you like (in my case 70% Dark chocolate) and just have some afterwards. It will trick your brain into thinking you enjoyed it and therefore you will have less issue doing it in the future.

I'm motivated to contribute something to my family, friends and the collective that is humanity as a whole. I just want to leave the world a better place than I found it. Maybe kind of deep, but that's one of the simplest explanations I can offer.

Microsoft pays woman $10,000 over forced Windows 10 upgrade

The Seattle Times reports that Teri Goldstein, of Sausalito, California, sued Microsoft after a failed Windows 10 upgrade left her system performing poorly, prone to crashing, and reportedly unusable for multiple days. Given the general issues associated with performing in-place upgrades, even successful ones, it’s not surprising that some users would run into problems. Goldstein reached out to Microsoft customer service to attempt to resolve her issues, but filed suit against the company once it failed to resolve her problems. Her $10,000 figure reflected estimated lost compensation as well as the cost of a new system.

One $10,000 judgment against Microsoft isn’t going to make a blip in the company’s financial earnings or its overall Windows 10 trajectory. But it neatly caps a year of self-inflicted damage regarding Windows 10 and Microsoft’s free upgrade. The repeated changes to Windows 10’s upgrade policy, mandatory telemetry collection, and decisions to kill off patch notes and make all updates mandatory (plus the issues with UWP and gaming) have collectively left a bad taste in many users’ mouths. None of these are fundamental reasons to stop using Windows 10, but they speak to the company’s profound trouble communicating what ought to be a winning strategy. The Windows 10 giveaway was a great concept, and the entire process could’ve been handled in a way that made people want to switch. Instead, Microsoft has been dragging people into upgrading in much the same way you might grab a cat and drag it off for a bath.

ConneelyS reacted to dalekphalm in I want to watch Star Wars but in what order is it?
It depends on what you want to experience. To best preserve spoilers and "OMG" shock efffect, there are a few sequences that have been developed over the years.

For a first time viewing, I recommend:
    The Ernest Rister sequence (4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6, 7)
Watch Eps 4 and 5 first, then go back to the prequels, which are treated more of a flashback, then back to Episode 6 and off to 7.

This way, once you learn, stuff, in Episode 5, it's not immediately spoiled in the Prequels because you already know the things. It gives you better context and backstory on Anakin, without weighing down the series. It also gives you some excellent movies to watch first, before you have to run through the prequels.

There's also a slimmed version, called:
    The Machete Order (4, 5, 2, 3, 6, 7)
This skips Episode 1 - All of the very important things that happen in this movie are more or less explained or referenced in the other movies, so you don't necessarily need to watch Ep 1.

I personally prefer the Ernest Rister order, as I want to see the complete story, good and bad.

    If you've already seen them, I recommend in-universe Chronological Order (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7).

If Fallout 4, The Witcher 3, or GTA V are a decent price, I may pick them up, and I'll probably grab a bunch of older titles for a couple bucks like I did last time (literally my entire library is just older games I grabbed for like $5 max). I was planning on buying new keycaps for my keyboard tomorrow, but that may have to wait...
