Dutch-stoner got a reaction from Crunchy Dragon in Does my desktop consume power or wifi when I put it on sleep(win10)
The amount of power used is very minimal. It's mostly to keep data inside your memory. (ram) If you would be using a desktop, all fans would quit. The PSU would be completely silent. And at best you might have a random led on, showing it's sleeping.

Just switched the paste to Arctic Silver 5 and the idles are lower (31-34C). Still not the same as before, but much more acceptable by me.

What is holding you back, to do some experimentation? Swap the paste.

Dutch-stoner got a reaction from 00RaZoR11 in Wierd MOBO issue?
I've seen this problem before myself with Old hardware. (between 6 and 10 year old mobo's, 24/7 usage) For me, the BIOS chips would degrade. If it's the same for you, you could try to update/downgrade/change your BIOS version and check if it makes a change. (the most important thing here is to rewrite data to your BIOS)

Another thing you might want to consider to bypass this problem, is putting the pc in sleep mode. That way, it isn't really turned off, and it will skip parts of the BIOS. It's not an cold start. (and also, your load times will most likely improve when starting up this pc) Power draw is minimal during sleep mode, and noise is non exsisting.

    Thanks for your answer.

I've also heard a few words about Gigabyte BIOS issues. I could also find a video on Youtube where somebody had issues with double booting, that was an MSI X99.

After all, I think your experience seems to be quite common and confirm the fact that Asus and ASRock have the lowest RMA numbers.

The budget is not 1000 or 500, so what is you budget exactly?
YOu want to stay in the 180 euro price range? how do you mean? 180 euros RAM and 180 euros CPU and 180 euros MOBO? that would be weird.
Also, you can't have the best possible performance for the least amount of money. You can have the best performance for a set budget or a set performance for the least amount of money.

The memory... The image shows only a single stick, and the discription is unclear. Is this a 2x8 sticks pack, 4x4 or just a single 16 gb stick. (2x8gb is something I would consider optimal, due to having an easy upgrade path + using dual channel)

Also try to use pcpartspicker, and search for those components there. Select germany as location. You might find the same hardware at lower prices. (I ofcourse expect 50% of the difference as compensation for this advice)

The I consider it really strange. Maybe it was the iGPU reserved memory? Who knows. It's gone now, and you can't check anything anymore.

Dutch-stoner got a reaction from TraskJ in good pc to upgrade to?
If you want to upgrade this pc later on, I'd suggest 2 sticks of 8 gb, not 4x 4gb. You will occupy all your memory slots, which will force you to buy all new memory when you upgrade this stuff.

I consider myself an AMD fanboi, but I don't like ATI that much. So... Why do you want 2x an RX 580? Why not a 1070ti or above?

Dutch-stoner got a reaction from Crunchy Dragon in Which motherboard is best with x299 chipset?
When asking people questions after they responded, don't forget to @ them or quote a piece of text. Otherwise they don't get a notification at all. It's just that @Crunchy Dragon agreed with my first post, that I went back here to see your question.

And his comment to your question is valid. If you have a semi professional workload, go with Threadripper. But if you are just a normal consumer/user, get Ryzen. If you've got some kind of budget, look for an R5 1600 or R7 1700(x). The 1700 will last a bit longer untill you need to upgrade, because it has usually 2 more cores. (if you are REALLY lucky, there have been R5's which got the wrong labels: they actually have 8 cores)

Depends on your use case. If you need all the cores for workstation purposes, definitely go with Threadripper.

Dutch-stoner got a reaction from Crunchy Dragon in Which motherboard is best with x299 chipset?
I would ask myself: what input devices do I expect to use/add in the next 5-10 years. Does it have enough sata ports. Does it have enough memory slots. How much rear end USB does it have. How much front end USB does it have. How easy is it to clean. Because in the end: It's all still x299.

(PS: look at Ryzen, I bet you've got a better upgrade path with those, which you probably would consider after 5 years)

@firelighter487 If you are talking about "R3HB7-X6HMH-F48J3-8XJVP-9QBP9", I doubt that would be an issue. Just do a google search on that serial. I've got multiple hits on that one.

Open the side panel, and check if the fans spin up at all. When you have this side panel removed, also check for dust in the heatsink.

If all looks fine, replace the thermal paste. Maybe it went bad/wasn't applied correctly.

Using older hardware myself. But I use 2 different types/speeds of memory, both running at the same speed. (that's how it works) 4 sticks in total. My pc is totaly stable and will be operational/in use for months on end without a reboot.

There has been a small kind of backlash on the PR department in AMD. They would compair Intel and AMD CPU's at 4k. They were almost identical. The big difference came at 1080p, which was a clear win for Intel when it was all about gaming.

Considering your "buddy" wants to play 1440p, it's less of an issue?

Dutch-stoner got a reaction from mech in Where to plug in my monitor?
It matters alot. an graphicscard usually is alot better then integrated graphics, especially if you are using an Intel CPU. And therefor, you want to use the best graphical processor for your main display >>> plug it into your GPU.  If you have got multiple monitors, it might be usefull to offload some of the work to your internal graphics.
