Yep, my wife and I charge everything on credit cards, and all are set to auto pay in full every month, no interest paid. We average around $1500 a year in cash back between the 2 cards we use.

These guys must have failed to understand that it's pretty obvious MS isn't interested in big numbers outright given the inability to upgrade on not-that-old machines but on the long term through new PC sales. Calling it a flop based on that (and wrong timeline) is just poor sensationalism to make it into the news.

If windows 11 would support older hardware they would probably see a jump in adoption rate.

Does it tho? Knowing that any employee can go rogue and do this is even scarier in my mind. A good security policy has to protect against internal breaches too. And for a company this big there is no excuse for one employee having this much access to sensitive data.

Whispre got a reaction from Mark Kaine in Protonmail exposed as logging IP Addresses contrary to their previous policies
I'm not sure why so many are so surprised by this... I signed up for Protonmail about 3 months ago... while researching and reading their terms/faq's etc... I saw it stated clearly that they do not log IP info by default but will for specific users start doing so if required by law. That the logging starts AFTER the request.

Nothing they've done goes against their already stated policies. Yes they changed a couple statements to make it more clear, but this was already a written/communicated policy before this happened.

I never said it "wasn't a thing" just saying that it is not as common as you seem to believe. Also, not sure a comparison from 2010 is a good one given today's gig fiber environment.

Anyway, just don't equate you and your friends and some online people knowing about this with it being "common knowledge". If people have to google it to find out about it, it's not that common.

No, its a tech project I'm working on at work, in my companies datacenter (which I also built, but that was a few years back)… just internal use. Also fun is automating not just software updates and reboots of the hosts, but firmware updates as well. Every node on the cluster and both controllers on the SAN are automatically updated as soon as new updates are cleared on the Dev clusters... zero downtime to the VM's running on them.

Last big tech thing I did at home was build a new wall mount desk with built in wall mount open air PC...

Most of my home time now is spent working on upgrades on my Jeep, After over 25 years as a sysadmin, working in tech so at home is less fun than it used to be, doing things like installing hydro-assist on the Jeep is more satisfying and more challenging.

    Not totally true.

We meet with our Microsoft rep quarterly, and the message from MS has been consistent for years now. They recommend moving "workloads that make sense" to the cloud and keeping other work loads on premise where they make sense. NOT "move all things to the cloud".

Even for our desktops/laptops, the focus is on keeping the OS on the device and just doing the Azure Join instead of Domain Join in a hybrid scenario... Azure based PC's make sense for certain workloads, but not most and Microsoft recognizes that and sets that message to it's corporate customers.

Comparison is invalid. You can't compare unless you look at car fires per mile driven of each type. The scale in reference (200,000 out of how many gas cars and how many miles driven) vs how many Tesla fires vs cars/miles? Those numbers would be relevant.

Above average knowledge of computers means you know what the difference between a power cord and HDMI cord is.... sigh... you need to be way above average to work in "tech" lol.

That said, I have interviewed at least 60 people over the last few years for sysadmin and service desk jobs and I can tell you one thing... you can have all the certs and education in the world, but the guy with real world experience and none of that other stuff will get the job first. At a sysadmin level for sure I barely even look at certs/degrees. I care more about past work experience and how you answer our screening questions.

That said, go out and get your A+ cert first if you just want to get into Help Desk type work to start, then just start applying to places, eventually someone will take a shot as long as you interview well. Once you get some experience you can start moving to better jobs.

That's bullshit. It's the other way round. There are many people who work in the computing industry who haven't got a univeristy qualifiication but are far more knowledgeable then those who have. You also have people who come out of university with a Computer Science degree with top marks but crumble in a real work environment.

It may not be the same in other industry like ones which require Science degrees (Biology, Chimesty, Physics etc...) but in computing, degree != more knowledge/qualified.

I have to deeply disagree with you as somebody that studies engineering with courses on engines and general car design.

General banning is a very short sighted approach because IF you would use the latest state of the art parts on an engine, emissions can be really really low, both gasoline or diesel. Gasoline engines tended to have lower emissions than diesel before the gasoline engines introduced direct injection, this introduced higher particle emissions because the air fuel mixture is created in the cylinder and therefore tends to be not that homogenous as non direct injected engines. But, as already stated, you can get them both very very clean.

Developments like Mazdas SkyaktivX look very promising, and probably there is a potential in alternativ fuels, but there has to be a lot more research on both still.

Why did I not think electric cars are not the way to go now? I think they are at least not the way to go in their current state.
1.) They need lots and lots of lithium, copper and other rare materials or materials that create huge pollution and health risks when mined for those who mine them.
2.) Our power grids are really not developed for a huge amount of electric cars. Imagine you have a city with 1 Million cars at least, probably 10% will load at the same time. The power draw will be immense even when spread, and we need a solution for that very fast. Especially in the evening hours there will be a large spike that can cause huge problems if not attacked early.
3.) Range and loading times are BAD. Reality is: not everybody has a supercharger at home or around and even if, see point 2.). Especially when travelling long routes and when many people already have electric cars, imagine how huge the recharge station have to be cause there would be piling a number of vehiclr because loading times.

I think we need to think outside the box to get a solution. The future is neither the gasoline or diesel engine powered with gas from the ground nor the battery eldctric vehicle in its current state, but TODAY there's no way around gasoline and diesel engines for long range and BEV tend to be a good solution for the people who just have to get around town and travel short distances.

I see everyone assuming YT is doing this to "control" us somehow... but I think it's more likely a simple business decision to avoid costly lawsuits. In today's litigation insane world where the public wants to sue and lay blame for everything even their own bad decisions, companies like YT have to protect themselves and their revenue stream.

I also think claims of censorship are too strong... this is not a free public service... they own what they do and have the right to control the content on it. If this was a public service paid for by tax dollars, I can see an outcry when they control what they allow.

I would prefer that they allow all content to be honest... but I can understand why they would want to limit some things.
