acerwin reacted to Alaa in Kaby Lake vs. Skylake
With a new gen releasing the old gen's prices will drop. So if you can wait a few months you might save a few bucks. You also have Zen coming.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR BRINGING US TO 3 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS ON YOUTUBE!!
Y'all are bae. That's why we've partnered up with Razer to give away one NEW Razer Blade 14, and one NEW Razer Blade Stealth (full specs listed in the announcement video), with a custom graphic designed by our very own Edzel Yago .
RULES OF THE GIVEAWAY:
1. One entry per user. Duplicate posts and posts from duplicate accounts will be deleted before a winner is drawn, to leave one post per person.
2. Winners will have 72 hours to respond. If a winner does not respond within that time, a new winner will be drawn.
3. This is a worldwide giveaway with no age restrictions. Shipping costs will be covered by the shipper, but any duties/taxes/other fees upon delivery will be the sole responsibility of the winner.
Alright, now that we've got that out of the way, OMG THIS IS AWESOME HOW DO I WIN ONE???:
1. Comment below letting us know which Razer laptop you would prefer to win. Feel free to make it fun - what would you use it for? Why do you prefer the Blade or the Blade Stealth?
2. This is not a REQUIREMENT for entry, but you should definitely follow Razer on Twitter and subscribe to their YouTube page. In addition to providing the laptops for this awesome giveaway AND sponsoring our trip to PAX, they work with a plethora of other incredible creators in a number of spaces, and release cool content with some of them on a fairly regular basis. Please support them on social media and Tweet at them thanking them for this giveaway!!
3. Check back in one week. Entries for this giveaway will close on Monday, September 12, and winners will be chosen soon after. Winners will be messaged by me here on the forum. Do not accept any other form of communication as legitimate, and do not share personal information with anyone who asks for it unless you can confirm that they are a legitimate source.
That's it!! If I've missed anything, feel free to let me know.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE ENTERING, AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT ON THIS CRAZY JOURNEY
EDIT:
Alright, we have selected our winners!!!
@Plavi and @willp3, you have 72 hours to respond to the DMs I am sending you right now. If we do not receive a reply in that time, new winners will be chosen! Since both said that the Blade would be their choice, it's on a "first replied first served" basis. (for clarity - what this means is that the first winner to reply will get their choice between the two laptops, and the second winner to reply will get the laptop that the first winner did not choose. This does not mean that we're only giving away one laptop...)
Thanks everyone.
EDIT2:
Alright, so @Plavi has officially claimed the New Blade! Congrats on winning
But, unfortunately for @willp3, he did not respond in time to claim his prize...
Our new Blade Stealth winner is @ted542! Check your inbox, you have 72 hours to reply
EDIT3:
Both laptops have now been claimed. Thanks for participating in this awesome giveaway, and please be sure to keep an eye out for giveaways in the future!
Please don't report posts in this topic - all duplicates will be handled before drawing, so if you have double posted, don't worry about it.

acerwin reacted to sushisharkjl in The ASUS GTX 950 does not require a 6pin PCIe
950s are generally pretty good performance/price cards, but for the best p/p go either AMD or GTX960/970.

Looks good, may get it if it doesn't cost loads.

acerwin reacted to Imakuni in Skylake or Haswell?
Not only Asrock, but pretty much every mobo manufacturer (until Intel forced them to push Bios updates and locked them all). Also, if you do try OCing non K cpus via Bclk, you lose AVX, the iGPU and the thermal sensor, which you may / may not care about.

acerwin reacted to DunePilot in Skylake or Haswell?
Skylake at that price range hands down. The difference between the two builds is only about $100 as long as you select similar motherboards and go with budget chips. Haswell in my humble opinion only kind of fits in the sub $700 builds. You can piece together a nice color scheme and gaming oriented Skylake build starting around $800. You can piece one together cheaper but you'll be cutting corners. You have a nice budget so you should be able to piece together something really nice. Keep the motherboard budget ~$150 so you can squeeze in a GTX 980 or 980Ti, and maybe cut some corners by going with a smaller SSD and stuff so you can maybe get a 980Ti without going much over budget.

acerwin reacted to TheRandomness in Skylake or Haswell?
Why the 970? And I vote skylake. Please don't get an explosive PSU.

iirc the bending is only likely to occur if you actively try to, or mount the cooler too tightly

Skylake, because it's newer and it will hold it's value longer Remember- you need DDR4 for Skylake.

acerwin reacted to kameshss in Xiaomi announces Mi5, and its awesome! - MWC 2016
Xiaomi announces Mi5 at MWC 2016. It packs powerful specs and comes in 3 variants. (only difference is storage and CPU clock speed).
Look wise, it's beautiful to look at. Elegant and curvy design at the back.
The mobile comes in two editions, The Mi 5 Pro (highend top of the line) with 3D Ceramic Body and Mi 5 (Standard one) with Glass back.
Below the screen there is a physical home button, which is also a fingerprint reader.
Instead of using eMMC, the Xiaomi Mi 5 can be picked up with up to 128GB of UFS 2.0 memory, which promises significant increases of 80% and more over eMMC 5.0 (think what Samsung did with the Galaxy S6). The Snapdragon 820 chip also supports Quick Charge 3.0.
The onboard 4G+ or 4G Advanced is capable of theoretical Cat.12 LTE speeds of up to 600 Mbps. VoLTE is also included. NFC is now also smarter with card virtualization and write mode.
The camera setup on the Xiaomi Mi5 is also very impressive at 16MP with an aperture of f/2.0 and 4-axis optical image stabilization, which is a brand new technology as well. The sensor itself is the Sony IMX 298, which comes with phase detection auto focus and deep trench isolation technology.
Specifications:
5.15" Full HD 1080p IPS display. Ultra thin bezels. Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU (Dual-core 1.8 GHz & dual-core 1.6 GHz - Standard edition, Dual-core 2.15 GHz & dual-core 1.6 GHz - other editions) - Adreno 530 GPU. Storage - 32GB/64GB with 3GB RAM and 128GB with 4GB RAM. No MicroSD slot. Android OS, v6.0 (Marshmallow) with MIUI 7.0 on top of it. 16MP SONY IMX298 rear facing camera with dual tone LED flash and OIS. 4k Video recording. 4MP front facing camera, capable of 1080p @ 30fps. WiFi 802.11 ac with Bluetooth 4.2. 7.25mm thickness. 3000 mAh battery. USB Type C Connector. Product Images:

acerwin reacted to Altecice in How to format 2nd hard drive
you will need to go into disk management and delete the current partitions on the drive and then create a new single partition.
-
acerwin reacted to SansVarnic in How to format 2nd hard drive
You can erase the partition(s) through windows disk manager. You will find it under control panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management
Select the partition you want to erase. The Disk management tool will list both you physical drive and the partitions each drive has.
After you have erased the partition you will be able to reformat the drive in what ever configuration you want.

acerwin reacted to TheProfosist in HDMI or DP for my new setup
It does audio, ethernet, and everything else HDMI can do and more in most cases.
HDMI is the betterof the two unless you are going to be overclocking the monitor.
-
acerwin reacted to typographie in HDMI or DP for my new setup
DisplayPort carries an audio signal as well.
In this case you have a technical reason to need DisplayPort, but I'll just point out that it's basically better than HDMI across the board. Anytime you have the right cable and compatible hardware you may as well use Displayport. Even if only for the locking connector.
If all it comes with is HDMI and DVI, chances are it is a fairly standard 1080p 60 Hz display that doesn't specifically need the bandwidth of DisplayPort. If the monitor comes with speakers and you plan to use them, you'd need HDMI since DVI doesn't carry audio. But otherwise there isn't much difference between the two.
