I legitimately installed low profile cameras on my back porch and front door back when I was a twitch streamer, being swatted was all too real a fear of mine. had an old 640p monitor controled by a Pi that would turn on if movement was detected. Was comforting to know that I would know if I was being swatted before it happened.

Ah, so Ring doorbells let people know of no-knock raids? Good.
No fucking reason no-knocks should be legal.

Just wait and see. Nobody knows yet. The launch will be in less than an hour, and hopefully reviews will follow sometime soon.

Wait, so law enforcement is concerned about the very thing they do to citizens on a regular basis? HA. HAHA. HAHAHAHAHA. That's rich. That's hilariously ironic.

To be clear, the dangerous and covert missions that law enforcement sometimes put themselves in front of are not easy work, but you can't have it both ways. Double standards are how you create an us vs. them situation, which is exactly the opposite of what our law enforcement & society need. (Remember, they work for us, not the other way around.)

The only drawback I see (and I'm in a similar situation when it comes to redecorating, but also wanting my PC plugged into the TV), is that depending how you have things set up in the room, you might end up running a long-ass HDMI cord along molding/up and over doors. I know for me that's going to have to be my solution.

So someone sees your eBay listing, offers a lot more than you asked for and now wants to handle the transaction not on eBay?
    That's definitely scam material.

If they want the item, just tell them to make an offer/buy it now on eBay, as that way you have the buyer/seller protection.

Looking forward to what they'll be doing with the Gran Turismo series. But if Sony is following through with their recent statements of perhaps porting PlayStation first-party games to PC... I would be even more interested in what they do with it.

Ehh, if anyone has a shot in hell at taking on Google, it'd be Apple. They have the cash and the resources to do so, although I guess if Apple were to develop a search engine, it would take quite a long while for them to do so.

    Two things.
    1. You have no idea how absolutely fucking mind boggling it is that a home console will now do real time ray tracing. If that's not a generational leap, then I can't help you.
    2. Diminishing returns. Many games already have a pretty close to photorealistic look while running at 4k, which is also pretty mind boggling considering how shit PS360 games looked at 720.

    Think of it like this;
    PS1:
Tomb Raider main character poly count ~250 on the high end. Textures basically non existent. Max tex size: 256x256 Highest resolution output: 640x240p. Most games were interlaced. PS2:
Kratos poly count ~5,700. Uses 5 textures. Textures still seem around 256. Maybe 512 on the higher end. Most common output resolution: 480i. A handful of games could do 480p PS3:
Kratos poly count ~64,000. Can't find an easily identifiable texture resolution. I'd still say 512 was pretty common, with maybe 1024 on the high end, or near end of life. Most common output resolution: 720p. Some games might hit 1080. PS4:
Kratos poly count ~80,000 Uses over 140 textures. Again, can't find an easy count. I'd say in the ballpark of 2048 on the high end. Most common res: 1080, up to 4k. Now next gen consoles once again have a leap in output resolution, texture size, poly count, and freaking ray tracing that didn't even exist 20 years ago. You people need to go back and play some older games, because holy hell. I'm tired of hearing "This new game looks like PS2!" You need to be slapped. The poly count as it continually increases gives less and less visual effect.

It's not about the textures, the biggest change from previous Gen is the CPU, it's over 6 times faster and can be way more than that in certain scenarios, that's how they would be able to make an open world game more realistic, by having better AI, better physics (like destructible objects/buildings and many more), denser populations, more intricate game mechanics, it opens a world of possibilities for developers, it could change the standard beaten down formula of games today.

the new consoles are not going to be taken advantage of until a few years later, maybe the visual change won't be as big but in terms of physics and mechanics I would expect there would be a massive improvement to realism especially for open worlds.

though we are definitely not peaking, not even close.

PlayStation 2 got a reaction from Drama Lama in Do you know a product that was ahead of it’s Time?
That I could agree with to an extent. The Dreamcast was received weirdly depending on the market because of Sega's actions prior to its release.

Out in the US, Sega of America really dropped the ball with the Saturn, where that loss of name recognition costed them many chances of making the Dreamcast last in the US. It didn't sell bad at first, but the prospect of the PlayStation 2 being right around the corner really hurt the system here and led to a really, really short life here.
In Europe, it seems like Sega had a little bit more of a chance as Sega of Europe was kinda neutral with any actions concerning the Genesis and the Saturn. Still, it ultimately lasted around a year and a half to 2 years out there. This is the market where I'm saddened most about that the Dreamcast couldn't last.
In Japan, the Saturn was a resounding success. Over 1400 games released for that system in Japan meant it was quite the known thing for Sega out there, and for them to shift focus out of the Saturn in just four years meant that the Dreamcast was always going to have a lukewarm reception out there.

Really, the Sega Dreamcast could've had a shot in hell overall had Sega themselves not been low on cash, but the lack of money and internal conflicts between the Japanese and American companies meant that they screwed themselves.

I dunno, outside of online gaming, was the Dreamcast really ahead of its time in any regard?
It had nice, easy to work with hardware and a refreshingly simple but visually pleasing menu system, but I wouldn't really argue it was a system ahead of its time. It has aged well, though.

Unfortunately unless the displays are overclockable (I doubt this one is), the rated refresh rate is the highest it will go even if you lower resolution.
