The proposition was so clearly explained on the ballot its almost guaranteed to pass:

I don’t see how that’s bad. I pay a premium for my personal tech devices all the time and I’m ok with that because I know my data is being protected and not sold.

The internet is free because we collectively agreed that selling our data is a fair price. If you don’t believe that, then you have to pay for the cost of the internet somehow.

A console is just a console. A PC is a far better investment since it can do other things than just play games and watch Netflix.

Not as cool as a 3090, but I got a pair of 8TB WD Reds to replace the 2TB WD Greens in my RAID1 array.

One of my WD Greens died about a year ago, but we wont talk about that.

DrMacintosh got a reaction from BTGbullseye in Demand for AMD and Nvidia to provide Hardware acceleration Across Entire GPU Line
Uhh, what? AMD and Nvidia GPUs do have the ability to hardware encode/decode HEVC (H.265).

The problem is that Windows does not support HEVC or HEIC if you built your own PC. You need to pay for (or acquire) a DLC for Windows to enable Windows to view HEIC/HEVC content.

The other problem is that most software does not use this codec yet since they have no motivation to change. I know for a fact that Handbreak can encode a DVD/Blu-ray using H.265 with a Radeon GPU bc I have done it before.

DrMacintosh got a reaction from Dracarris in Apple finally enters 5G - iPhone 12 + homePod mini announcement
Yeah, that's why the top selling iPhone models have been the mid range ones. Basically below $600 is the sweet spot for moving units. The iPhone XR is remaining in the lineup this year along with the iPhone SE. Given that the user experience is like 98% identical from the SE all the way up to the $1299 model, I don't expect that the iPhone 12 was supposed to be the model that knocks it out of the park in terms of sales.

Apple is currently going for an increase in marketshare and they are using their large scale and upfront R&D to lower the production cost of previous models and to continue printing fat stacks long after a model is no longer the latest and greatest.

When your lowest common denominator is the A12 Bionic, that really makes your competition look bad. Especially when you can beat/match them on price all while offering a device that's built better, lasts longer, and gives you a blue chat bubble.

Yes, but what if AMD screwed up for a few generations. They just going to go back to Intel? Why? When they design their own chips in house. From a business stand point, I understand why they are going ARM. No reason to rely on other companies who could screw up, making your product kinda sucky.

Blame Intel for this. There constant fuck ups the last few generations were the reason Apple decided to jump ship. If Intel stayed competitive, then its likely Apple might have not decided to change over to their own silicon. I do think they will lock you down to a built in App Store like they have done with the iPhone.

Lets be honest here. When you buy Apple, you pay for "The Experience" LOL. There are things Apple does do well, the integration between their products is second to none. Very VERY convenient to be able to get Texts and Calls on my MacBook Pro, and all you need is a MacBook Pro and iPhone on the same network. This feature works well and is polished. But yeah, Apple will likely take advantage of the situation and lock their machines down to a single App Store that they control and likely get 30% of everything.

Well... uh... if you haven't been following my status updates, I got a new phone! I got a 128GB iPhone SE, to be specific.

Got myself an unlimited data plan today and the trade-in of my phone meant that I could yoink this for just $1.66/mo, so I decided to go for it.

I've got the 7th Gen and the only thing I wish I did differently was get the 128GB model. The 32GB model is a bit limiting but since I really only use it for taking notes with OneNote I don't need a lot of storage since I have Student OneDrive account and iCloud Drive/Photos.

It's a great note taker and eBook reader. It can also replace your laptop for most things with that keyboard case. I'll stick to the traditional iPhone, Mac, iPad triangle tho
