Personally I don't have any issue with storage. I got terabytes upon terabytes of storage. However, I do not think "I got a lot of hardware" is a valid reason for why we shouldn't care about how much storage programs use.
Lots of hardware should not be an excuse for poor programming.

Telling people to buy more hardware to compensate for poor programming is like saying car manufacturers shouldn't make more efficient engines and instead just put in bigger gas tanks, or that people just need to visit gas stations more often.

"what, you're complaining that the 2020 vw golf uses twice a smuch fuel without having any major advantages over the 2019 model? Just refuel more often. What, are you poor or something?"
That's what I believe you sound like right now.

I encountered this before, the computer wouldn't even POST with the keyboard plugged in. The moment I swapped another keyboard in, worked fine.

What confused me even more was that I swapped the supposedly "faulty" keyboard to another computer, restarted it, it worked absolutely fine.

I guess the real reason I made the original post (that I know no one's bothering to read) is because I feel like the overall passion for the OS one uses has vastly declined in the last few years.

I know the current trend is to use electron based web apps and universal solutions with a single codebase, but I honestly hate using these solutions. One of the things I see a lot of Windows people try to do on MacOS is use the mouse for everything when as a UNIX-based OS, it's actually easier to use the keyboard for most things.

Try using the keyboard for navigation on an app like Discord. You can't. Not easily. And it forces me to constantly switch between the keyboard and the mouse. It's annoying when an app doesn't follow the conventions of the desktop environment you use.

I don't know about you, but I regularly look through the cabins of cars in front of me, including brake lights. You can see like 3-4 cars ahead if they are suddenly stopping while car right in front of you isn't even racting to it yet. Problem these days is everyone is using big ass SUV's where this doesn't work. Or vans and trucks where you can't see through...

A wise man once said "Speed has never killed anyone.  Suddenly becoming stationary, that's what gets you".

A hard limiter is okay only if it exceeds the maximum speed limit.  So for instance 140km/h if the speed limit is 120.  That gives you the ability to accelerate out of trouble even when you're driving at the speed limit.
The problem then is that people will still be able to do 140 in a 30 zone ... except if you put GPS in every car and have a map with all the correct speed limits.  Seeing as these limits may change (they can be lowered as a result of bad weather or road works), that means that every car would need to regularly pull that data from a central server, which is an issue in itself (potential for tracking, what if someone hacks into the server and changes the limit to 5km/h nation-wide, etc)
You also need an option to disable it altogether in emergencies (sometimes you may need to get someone to a hospital and can't wait for an ambulance).

Personally I'm okay with cars reporting to the authorities when they are speeding excessively.  If you have a valid excuse for speeding no judge will fine or convict you.

As for automatic braking and lane assist etc, I have a feeling that most people will use those mainly as excuses to browse Facebook on the phone while driving.

Yours caught my eye because your budget was in the subject.

I would buy 10x 4TB disks instead of 4x 10tb disks (for speed)
I would ditch the pfsense box and add more RAM to the storage box (max out the mobo)
I would buy an HBA card (ebay: HBA and look for ones that say flashed to IT mode)
I would buy an additional NIC (for WAN)
I would install ESXi, then virtualize pfsense and freeNAS
