In the past month or two I have noticed a pretty big lack of interesting videos on the LinusTechTips channel compared to what they were say a year ago, I appreciate the increases in Video quality etc, but the videos seem to have very little effort going into them now. It seems as if the guys are just coming up with topics for the sake of it. I know that Linus Media Group need to make more money now as they have higher running costs with staff increases and the new house but I'm worried that 90% of the attention is now going on to making ads and commercials and trying to gain more sponsors, rather than focus on making good entertaining content. The video from today for example was a 4 minute video about the mod mic which didn't really seem to have a point (I still watched it and liked it because I want to support the company). I don't mind seeing videos like this but when this is the only video that is put out all day then I'm kind of dissapointed.
 
I don't mean to hate on the guys but I was just wondering if I was the only person that had noticed this and what you guys opinions are, and if it is a common thought maybe the guys could try make some changes, just a thought obviously.

Looks like Microsoft is pulling a Cisco. Selling off their profitable division. I bet Linus will talk about this in today's WAN show. "Business is business". 

Of course our wonderful CRTC will still find ways and excuses to block this in Canada.

The question was about innovation not invention.  Invention is the creation of new solutions (and that's about it) while Innovation is the application of solutions to meat new requirements, needs, or existing market demand.

So if you think about it, the source is irrelevant.  The issue is a lack of innovation not invention (which can be related, but in Apple's case it is not).
 
Steve Job's never hid the fact that he was an innovator and not an inventor.
 
It's important to the relevancy of discussion in this topic to discern the difference.

All these things where, at the time of their release, considered everything from innovative to genius (even if they were not necessarily the first at the time, they were the most commercially successful and socially forward).  Steve Jobs, while a complete pompous jerk who didn't care what anyone thought of him, was genius at getting people to thrive and compete their way to excellence.  He really knew how to market a product, how to get people fired up about it, and then get everyone who heard him as fired up as he was and head out to tell the world for him.  After he started the art form of a delivering a keynote speech, many companies have tried to copy him in his EXACT product release format.  Let's face it, the fact he knew how to build suspense only to wait until the very end of an unveiling to drop the biggest bomb on a press conference is truly innovative.
 
I find the technology of Apple to be innovative enough as is, even though I don't use the vast majority of it, but the way they have been able to handle a crowd and spin things in their favour is pretty impressive.

Should be. Keep in mind, they're a multi billion dollar company. They can appeal the ruling(s) too .. anything is possible.

I can't believe some of the people here. Someone gets something nice and people are saying it's a waste of money or your parents bought it. Who cares.

yeah it just sounds like you're really uninterested in what you're saying, so how is the user supposed to feel? just try getting a bit more animation into your voice, it'll go a long way!
 
Also, on the sound, usually there's a setting in vegas or if you want audacity to add a bit of gain to just your microphone channel, cos that outro was pretty freaking loud!!

No the tablets are not the problem. It is the lazy ass parents that get them a tablet, load it with games and keep it charged just to shut the kids up. Parenting is pathetic now a days and I see it all over the place. 

I don't see how this is the iPad's fault. Kids who don't communicate vocally will have these problems iPad or Not.
Sounds more like the article should be saying parenting is getting worse.

This is one of the most idiotic things I have ever heard. If the younger generation ends up with a lower vocabulary when they grow up then devices like the iPad are not to blame. It's the people who are responsible for educating these children that would be responsible, so the parents, teachers, the entire educational system, etc etc.

It's not really funny, TBH, you're just spamming/post farming.

how about doing an overview video (an "unboxing" of the software)? go over the features? explain how it's better? explain why I should be interested in it OTHER than just blindly following you because you're Linus
 
ventrilo, skype, mumble has been around for years. as much as I love your video's, I'm not so blindly guided to just drop what reliable and satisfying software I've been using for years just because you said so
 
as a sponsor, I need to sell the product/brand - just telling people to download it or softly forcing it (for live calls) doesn't leave the best impression of "sponsor". I know what it's like to have sponsors, and I strongly dislike this blind recommendation method of "promoting" - sell it to me, and sell it to your viewers
 
/end rant, but my 2 cents. you make videos all the time, making one to showcase the software surely isn't too much to ask for

Perhaps joining The WAN Show (new name for the live stream) for an appearance in early August...
