SlaughterSmurf got a reaction from Darkseth in 1070 or 1080
The Gtx 1080 is about 25% faster than the 1070. At 450/500 you're paying 11% more. That's a deal. Go with the 1080

SlaughterSmurf got a reaction from Biggerboot in Ryzen 5 1400/Ryzen 5 1600
Yeah but 6 real cores are better than 4 cores + 4 SMT threads. If games start being optimized for more than 4 cores (Some games already are) then the 1600 will be stronger.

SlaughterSmurf reacted to Sauron in Coffee Lake
Rumour has it it will launch somewhere around october and the price for the top end part should be about 400$. Overall pricing should be lower in comparison to similar performance parts from the 7000 series.

Mate. I'm tired and on Codeine. I'm sure I'll get the joke in the morning though.

Depends on the time of day.

SlaughterSmurf got a reaction from Jon Jon in Wait for 8700k or get Ryzen?
In gaming RIGHT NOW Ryzen will perform about the same as your 4670k (assuming it's overclocked) no matter which Ryzen chip you get. Now in 2 years, in 3 years? I think the extra cores of Ryzen will really start to stretch its legs. Also keep in mind, if you find that the Ryzen isn't doing what you want it to do in 3 years, you'll have probably 2 generations of IPC improvements to upgrade to since AM4 will be supported through 2020 at the minimum.

SlaughterSmurf reacted to Cookybiscuit in Buying 2nd hand GTX 780 in 2017
How are 290X or 290 prices where you are? Even a 7970 has crept up on 780 due to AMD's FineWine™ technology.

SlaughterSmurf got a reaction from i_build_nanosuits in Buying 2nd hand GTX 780 in 2017
Those benchmarks compared a reference 780ti which runs at 928mhz boost to factory overclocked everything else'. A factory overclocked 780ti usually ran at about 1100+mhz, which is a 20% overclock over the reference boost. My experience with a 780ti is much better than those benchmarks would have you believe.

SlaughterSmurf got a reaction from i_build_nanosuits in Buying 2nd hand GTX 780 in 2017
Yeah but the issue is that all of the other cards in the GN roundup were factory overclocked. My 780ti SC (a pretty standard factory overclocked card, definitely not a top end card) ran at 1150mhz out of the box. That's nearly a 25% performance jump over the benchmarks shown in the GN video.

SlaughterSmurf reacted to Changis in GTX 1070 problems
or you could get a kraken g12 or similar and just watercool it with a AIO
though suggestive, i've seen WAY worse coolers than that

SlaughterSmurf reacted to TheRandomness in GTX 1070 problems
The 1050 Ti has mounting holes of 48x48mm. Now, the 1070 has 58x58 or 61x61 mm mounting holes. So there's a rather large problem.

SlaughterSmurf reacted to emosun in gtx 1080 too hot
well my definition if "proper cooling" is a device being as cold as it can be
while your definition of proper cooling I imagine is "i don't know how to put on headphones when my tower is loud"

SlaughterSmurf got a reaction from JaegerB in Is it worth waiting for the 8th gen intel CPU
I'm in the same situation as you. After a lot of deliberation and lots of forum questions I'm waiting for the 8700k. It will have 2 more cores and 4 more threads. Think about it this way: do you want to be using this PC in 4 years? If all of the top and mid range chips, i5, i7, Ryzen 5, and Ryzen 7 are ALL on 6+ cores, then games will take advantage of those extra cores. In 4 years, 4 cores will be an entry chip. Even in October, 4 cores will be an entry chip with only low end Ryzen 5's, Ryzen 3's, and i3's being quad cores. I wouldn't want to be stuck on a quad core even with hyperthreading in 4 years.
Yes, waiting 2 months REALLY sucks. I hate it too. However, 2 months of waiting to get a better experience for 48 months? I'd take that sacrifice all day long.

Perfect. If I can save $150 and get similar performance, then I'll probably be going with Ryzen 7

FTW2 has higher quality components and such with better cooling performance than the SC2 but in most situations it won't matter too much

SlaughterSmurf got a reaction from RGProductions in Fair price for GTX 1070
That's not bad considering the price of 1070's right now. However does it have the thermal mod? Does it already have the updated bios? I wouldn't pay $340 for it if it doesn't. In case you don't know, there was an issue a while back where 1070/1080 SC cards were overheating on parts other than the GPU Core because of a lack of thermal pads. Cards bought in 2017 usually had thermal pads pre-applied to these areas by EVGA, but EVGA would also send you thermal pads for free. Just check with him on that.

SlaughterSmurf got a reaction from EnergyEclipse in Upgrade from 280x to 780 Ti for free?
Yeah I'd do it why not. I would go with a 970 over a 780ti if you're able to though. It gets significantly better driver support.
