Dr. Moose reacted to Techicolors in Should I forget about Android Lollipop for my AT&T LG G3?
My G3 is under AT&T as well. But I didn't want to wait so I rooted and flashed CM12. To be honest it will take months until AT&T will release Android L for the G3. The international G3 already has it. I presume AT&T is putting their usual bloatware and crap on it before sending it out. But if you don't want to that's fine. But believe me you'll be waiting for a while. CM12 is an absolutely brilliant experience. I really doubt AT&T's version will match it.

Project Ara by Google. It makes me jizz. If google makes their own OS for it and it's actually decent, I will buy it in a heartbeat.

Lollipop looks and works great. This is definitely ready for being a daily driver; it's very stable. But, there are bugs around the table.
Animations: The ripple effect when tapping on things within the phone UI flickers and stutters constantly. Animations in general could be smoother, although they're very fluid to begin with. The swipe up from the home button for Google Now animation freezes and stays that way until you press a button on the navigation bar again. But, it's worth it for all the wonderful Lollipop visuals!
Battery life: This is one of the worst weaknesses of CyanogenMod 12. While I could get more than 5.5 hours of screen on time with CM 11s, I now get about 3-4 hours. It's really disappointing. But, the battery still lasts me a day, but no more.
Camera: No quality in the photos the OPO produces was last. But, when trying to record 4K in the camera app, it won't work.
Internet connection: No changes in the speed of my downloads and internet connectivity.
    Bluetooth: Working fine.
Lacking features from CM 11s: There's still a lot missing. No theme engine, no quick settings customization, only stock home screen settings, no screen-off gestures (< or > and II to play and pause and switch between music, V to turn on torch), etc.
Even though there's still a lot lacking, CM 12 is great

Dr. Moose got a reaction from AnnoyedShelf in CyanogenMod 12 Nightly on my OnePlus One
So I successfully flashed the latest CM12 Nightly onto my OnePlus (it only took me a few hours to figure out ) and so far Lollipop is fast. It's still a little unfinished, for example the ripple animation when tapping on things in the settings will stutter and flicker quite often. There's also no home screen animation settings or the option to hide the Google Bar at the top of the screen, etc., ect... I'm mostly missing the gesture features when the screen is off and you could do a V to turn on the flashlight, > or < to switch between songs, just a few things. I'm more curious when the OnePlus One version (S release) of CyanogenMod 12 will be released. Any ETA or news or rumors when that's going to be released?

    1. They have warehouses here in Southern California, I live less than half an hour from two OnePlus warehouses and I got mine in 3 days from placing my order.
    2. Wipe and sell. I guess you should save your contacts onto your SIM if you want to avoid re-entering all of your contacts onto your new OPO.
    3. BRUH, Android is almost buttery smooth. The OS is as smooth as iOS, it just has a few more stutters here and there. But don't worry about it, Android with CyanogenMod on the OPO is virtually lag-free.
    4. Just walk into your AT&T store and ask for one, as far as I know they are free. My OPO came with a MicroSIM adapter in the box, so it should not be a problem.
    5. OPOs sold in India will not be getting CyanogenMod, but you live in the US so it does not pertain to you CyanogenMod has promised 2 years of support for the OnePlus One (well, those not sold in India). It's rumored and expected that CyanogenMod 12S will be hitting OPOs in January, so sit tight
Hope you love your OPO as much as I love mine

Dr. Moose got a reaction from HellaflushMcSwaggins in LG G3 or Note 4
In four months all of the new phones will be out/being released, you should definitely wait if you want the best of the best. Otherwise... I'd get the Note 4. The Note has the best internals available, and it makes use of the spacious screen better than anyone else by far. But, it does come with the rest of TouchWiz's lag... it isn't that bad, but if you're nitpicky, it'll probably bug you. Not sure if you can, but I own the OnePlus One and I absolutely love it On Antutu benchmark it scores RIGHT below the Note. It's a lot cheaper and IMO a lot better... just my own opinion. But between the LG G3 and the Note 4, I'd get a Note 4. But, if you wait, you can get the LG G4, which will most likely come out or be out around Easter time.

Yeah Nexus 9 will do just fine with reading... Apple still has the best stuff in the tablet realm, but honestly since you're comfortable with Android already, I see no reason for switching to Apple's products for your needs. But, iPads are the best well-rounded tablets. The Nexus 9 isn't the best gaming tablet, but it should be fine. Just get the Nexus.

I went from a 4.5" screen to the 5.5" screen on my OnePlus One. I'd never go back. Get the OnePlus One, or wait for the OnePlus Two.
The S6 might be a good phone, but knowing Samsung, TouchWiz is going to be riddled all over the device. My OnePlus made me realize two things: Software is key and specs don't matter. The OPO has relatively outdated specs, but it's lightning fast. Almost no lag. I personally love that I get even more customization with Cyanogenmod 11S, and it's going to be updated to Lollipop before the end of the year. I would wait for the OnePlus Two; OnePlus is considering a smaller sized phone, so no phablet here. Btw, the S6 is most likely going to be really big too, but not as big as the Note. Just don't let all those specs get to you, because any phone is fast nowadays. But yeah. Wait for the OnePlus Two. It's going to be released around the end of Q2 and early Q3 according to the co-founder: http://www.technobuffalo.com/2014/11/21/oneplus-founder-explains-why-its-flagship-killer-is-so-hard-to-buy/ (Last sentence).

Good. The F/2.3 allows for some nice depth of field, and the automatic modes are quite adequate for most photos. I will need to wait until daytime, and I will get some comparison shots up.

It will shatter. (Tempered glass). However, it is similar to the Z2 in the design, and that survives drops pretty well.

The screen was badly discolored (one half was blue and dark, the other was light and white). Verizon guys tried to argue with me about it, but when turning down the brightness it got tons worse. Looking at the display models, they were better, but still not very uniform (which, as an always-on screen demo unit, I cant say its an issue across the board). The ballistic nylon was also not very good... as in, in a few sections it was protruding, almost like it was fraying out of the box.
These two issues seem to be going around, and some people are being told they wont cover the fraying nylon people are experiencing after a few days of use.

The above was the main reason I started my quest back to the verizon store, but the following helped in the decision:
The design is.....uninspiring. I dont really care, as my phones are more of a tool than a fashion statement - but it is what it is.  3200mAh battery. Less than the 3900 in the turbo, but still way more than in many similarly sized phones Waterproof. The Sony is waterproof, and I live in oregon where it rains.....alot..... Micro-SD slot.

    1. no stock OS other than on the OnePlus One (Oppo N1 Cyanogenmod edition?) or the Nvidia Shield tablet lets you underclock AFAIK
    2. battery cases exist for iOS, probably one of the dumbest claims I've seen defending battery life...
    3. Don't allow background apps? Really? Not only is that a developer option, but that's one of the stupidest ways to run a phone period.
    4. Why would he NOT talk about battery life? Battery life is an important aspect to touch on ANY mobile device.

I'm not saying its a lost cause, but hey, we're getting there...
And to the OP; the day my iPhone can either replicate the quality of a D800 or give me the ~50mb RAW file to play with or give me better optics that can allow it to rival a DSLR shot like this, I think I'll rest easy. I would love to have a smaller and smaller device that can rival the heavyweights of the camera industry, but the fact is cameras truly are a you get what you pay for segment.

This whole "phones beating DSLRs" malarky has been around for a long time. Nokia's PureView and 1020 were great, sure, but they were no "DSLR killers". They were just very, very good for phones. DSLRs are more than just their MP count and sensors. Largely, the optics play a big role. Its why my camera body might only cost me 2500. But a single lens cost me 3000. There is a very good reason for that.

Do I want better mobile phone shots? Absolutely. Am I idiotic enough to think that pathetically small sensors and near useless lenses will ever replace one? Nope. Not until Canon says "we're giving Apple our L level glass to shove into the iPhone" and Sony says "we've shrunk the Hasselblad sensor into something that fits into an iPhone".

I also have the OnePlus One, and love it. Battery life in my experience is fantastic, I manage 2 full days of heavy use and find myself purposely trying to run it out of battery on the third day of normal use, often still has about 20% left. I find the camera to be good (I'm no camera expert by any stretch) and the ability to save RAW (I know, coming in Android L anyways) is great if you like to take your photos into your editing software afterwords. Camera shutter is pretty fast, almost as quick as the iPhone and much faster than say the Nexus 4 (Not sure how the 5 compares to that). Screen is brilliant, I don't find mine to be cold at all, just my experience though. I've also found customer support to be good, I contacted them about a charger and they responded within 24 hours and did so for the following 4 messages.

Then to the software, I've said on the forum here before that I thought I could never move away from stock Android, then I decided to take the plunge for the OnePlus after receiving an invite, and now I don't think I could move away from Cyanogen! The amount of customisability is fantastic, and if your not in to that sort of thing then no need to touch it either, it's just great to be able to have options.

Any more questions ask away, I would be happy to answer, as would many others here!

For anyone who has the phone, how does the camera perform and how's the battery life? I was going to save up for a Nexus 6, but it looks too big and is twice the price of the OPO.
