Other than that a snore fest. Hyped up with a massive letdown. Typical amd.

shawno reacted to vanished in Intel: Chips To Become Slower But More Energy Efficient
As much as we as enthusiasts crave moar power all the time, I agree efficiency is equally important.  It allows for less heat output, longer lifespans, less costly and complex cooling solutions, longer battery life in mobile situations, and creates the opportunity/headroom for intel to just massively factory overclock the chip if they suddenly need to catch up performance-wise in a panic   Not to mention you're right about global power consumption.  I can't remember the exact numbers but I read somewhere that the majority of PC power consumption was due to a minority of machines (ie, all us gamers and power users of all kinds :p)

Considerimg most of these were released in humble bundles and the fact that most people already own the games its not too good for the majority of gamers. However for the people who are transitioning to pc its pretty good value

shawno reacted to Notional in AMD have begun shipping Polaris GPUs - 2 different Polaris chips and 4 different GPUs spotted
Why is this so hard to understand?

    Next Gen AMD cards:
14nm Finfet LPP (Low Power Plus) Glofo/Samsung Architecture: Polaris (4th gen GCN) Series: Arctic Island GPU's (so far): Greenland (High end), Ellesmere and Baffin. We know these chips are already being produced, so I guess we will see them within half a year, which seems to be the norm, once these cards start shipping internally.

Which GPU would you get that has 8GB of VRAM? The R9 390x I guess? The 390x is a worse card.

If you meant a GTX 980? Those only come in 4GB variants - I've yet to see an 8GB model.
The 980 Ti? That doesn't come with 8GB either - it has 6GB.

Furthermore, benchmarks have shown that the 4GB of HBM VRAM in the Fury and Fury X have not been a bottleneck. In fact, the Fury X pulls ahead of the 980 Ti in some 4K benchmarks, despite the fact that 4K traditionally uses more VRAM. I assume because HBM can refresh so quickly.

So I'm quite confused as to your justification for this statement:

Exactly, a HUGE red flag right here and just proves that everyone that questions you, is right.
Being an investor doesn't give you access to any privileged information, there are plenty of websites that report investors calls - some free, others under pay wall. No information disclosed in such calls is under NDA. If you were an actual investor, you would know this... so this pretty much confirms that you are full of shit.
No wonder you are saying random shit like for us to expect a Press Release 2 months ago to announce Keller going to work for Intel.
Well I have family and friends in the industry as well, and they say you are saying nothing but bullshit. My grandfather is in the board of Intel, and all of it's 21 sons and daughters are taticaly spread through companys that I cherry pick them to be. See what I did there?

The funny part is that actually I work with some (2) members of the industry
Regarding the logic which you claim to be the source (somehow you think it's fucking valid LOL) - AMD and it's partners, like Micron, also have developed tech that has became JEDEC standard - this alone completly destroys your logic with a bulldozer. HMCC is a consortium that lasts till THIS DAY. It's not a partnership like AMD and Hynix - IT'S A CONSORTIUM. The ridiculous part is that SAMSUNG IS PART OF HMCC!
AMD has also a record of being open, and such doesn't invalidate Micron being open or not. Just because Intel and Micron chose to have their own consortium over JEDEC, doesn't mean that there was a bribery scam where the PLAYER ON A FINANCIAL CHOKEHOLD LIKE AMD IS BRIBING SAMSUNG AND ALL OF THE OTHER MEMBERS OF JEDEC WHICH ARE WAY MORE FINANCIALY HEALTHY THEN AMD.

To claim that AMD/Hynix successfuly bribed Samsung is like saying that BP CEO avenged his company by taking a piss in the ocean in order to increment it's acidity.
Patrick, you're fucking ridiculous and this crap should be punished with the ban hammer. This is worst then rumours. This is made up information in an attempt to misinform a community for your own pride.
    Desgusting behavior.

As I've said plenty of times, 2016 will be an amazing year for gaming and tech in general.
With Arctic Island, 4K will finally be a standard, where you can run it with ultra settings at high fps in even demanding games. Awesome!

I see no reason for AMD to not release a 300w tdp or so card, that will be double the performance of Fury X. I guess it depends on yields of such chips on 16nm FF+.
Hopefully prices should go down again. 600+$ cards are dumb and overpriced. HBM should in the long run make the cards cheaper along with smaller chips, but let's see where AMD and NVidia are going to put their focus. Hopefully we will see tiny Fury X like cards become the standard.

No Patrick, YOU have claimed that:
HMC was nominated for JEDEC (thus being down voted) That foul play was the reason for HBM to be adopted, as in bribing/black mailing The burden of proof lies on you, and you damn well know that. We all know you have no proof, because you have no clue about it. You want it to be the case, but have zero facts to back up your made up claims.

Furthermore, you make it sound like only a tiny handful of companies voted on which technology to adopt. Well here is the full member list of JEDEC (over 300):
    https://www.jedec.org/about-jedec/member-list
Do you honestly expect us to believe that AMD and SK Hynix has bribed/blackmailed all of the members in the voting committee ? Seriously?

That being said, HMC is overpriced and under performing for GPU's, where massive bandwidth is more important than super low latency. HBM is easier to make, cheaper and gives a higher performance for GPU's than HMC; why else would NVidia drop HMC, where they sit as a member in the consortium, to adopt HBM instead? And no it has nothing to do with anti trust, to use a technology you are co owning/developing in a consortium at that.

No HMC will hold it's own market share for CPU's on other applications, but it's a bad choice for GPU's. Just like we have GDDR5 for graphics and DDR4 for cpu's.

I don't understand why you are so fixated on bringing an inferior and overly expensive solution, that isn't even being mass produced yet, to graphics cards, that would under perform compared to HBM.

    Addendum:
The HBM JEDEC application began back in 2010, and was adopted in 2013. The HMC consortium was not established until 2011!

Addendum 2: Actually NVidia is neither a member, nor an adopter of HMC: http://www.hybridmemorycube.org/about.html
