Christ. Last I remembered in Taiwan back when I lived there, I don't remember these kinds of shops existing. Why can't such a mall exist/survive in America?

Taiwan is a small place though. The houses I used to live in in America would be like 3 times as large as the house I lived in Taiwan. The streets are smaller and it's more densly packed (at least compared to Bay Area, California). I don't understand why it has to be so much more expensive in America than in Taiwan.

Similar things do exist in America/NA, but usually they're within a big box store. Eg. (not sure if they do this anymore, but at one time they did) here in Canada they usually have at least one dedicated Apple & HP rep in a Best Buy, usually with their own small section within the store. Customers can come there for more detailed information about a product as the rep is supposed to be an expert on that brand's offerings. There is also that Google B&M store in the UK, can't remember which retailer it as a part of, but it is created with the same idea in mind... showroom rather than actual sales point.

I think it's just a fundamentally different outlook that US divisions have. From what I know, many NA outfits are much more focused on what directly drives sales, so they're far more likely to spend their budget on something they can relate directly to an increase in sales (eg. this location sold x units) rather than indirectly (eg. the customer experienced the product here, decided they liked it, shopped around for the best price and eventually bought it somewhere else).

Just my two cents - I could be totally incorrect as I don't have a lot of experience (see: basically none) in the TW market. I do think it would be super cool to have something like this locally, so hopefully I am wrong :D

Space is also extremely expensive in Taiwan since it's such a small country. I don't know the exact comparison to the US but I believe residential space is actually more expensive per square foot in Taiwan. I'm not sure about business/industrial space, but I can only assume that it translates similarly.

Is it all just sponsored by the companies then? There has to be some way they are paying the bills if they dont expect people to buy anything.

I would assume it's filed as part of an advertising budget, though I could be wrong.

Would love a place like this near me. But It isn't ever going to happen for one simple reason.

 

The vast majority of people in the area I live have no interest in PC and technology beyond their mobile phone. Most people around here are football thugs and/or European, Middle east, and west Asian immigrants.. again none of which have any interest in the kinda tech shown in this vid.

So if the showrooms aren't there to make money, and I'm assuming brand perception/recognition doesn't benefit a whole lot from them because of the relatively low amount of people visiting those places... what is their purpose again?

This looks like a completely OTT solution to an irritating problem.
Things like peripherals often really need some personal hand-on time in order to know if they're right for you personally and things like watercooling fittings can often be tricky without being able to try a few directly to figure out what'll fit, but no store can carry those kinds of things as their required markup would mean they'll lose 90% of the time to e-Tailors, so I guess having a dedicated 'mall' to bring people from a wide area makes sense.

Well when I needed a optical drive and USB wifi stick. He asked me is this a gaming PC? I said ya he said steam summer sale starts Friday, He was cool. But ya that would be cool to have in Texas. That would be way better than 3 MORE WALMARTS!!! AT LEAST 1 WHOLE FOODS INSTEAD OF HAVING TO TRAVEL TO DALLAS BUT NOOOOOOOO!!!
