Intel i3 and Amd Fx-6300

Go to solution Solved by manikyath,

the i3 will do better in two-threaded games, they'll be comparable in four-threaded games, and if you have something that'll use all cores, the AMD will be ahead (rare case)

the i3 will allow you to upgrade to i5 or i7 in the future tho.

on the games on working on dual cores: not an issue with the i3 as it has 4 threads, this is only an issue with pentiums.

Im choosing which cpu to get for a new gaming pc,

its a budget of though around 700 dollars (650 euro),

and my question is if intel i3 is better than the amd fx-6300

And is it possible to game on an intel i3?

i3 is better.

I don't always have time to study, but when I do, I don't.

i3 all the way; IPC on FX6300 is really gonna hurt game performance and no upgrade path on that socket etc...

- Yes IMO in games that dont use more than 4 cores  (threads), but not a whole lot

- Of course it's possible, but some games apparently dont work on dual cores??

Possible? They're excellent in most games.

The FX-6300 can get fairly close if overclocked, and it's certainly cheap enough. But LGA-1150 gives you at least some sort of upgrade path if you choose to do so.

But with AMD there is nothing worth upgrading to. On lga1150, you can get the best cpu for gaming, the 4690k, or even better the 4790k for other work.

Go with the i3. I'm stuck with a damn FM2+ socket.

  • AMD Athlon X4 760K CPU   |   MSI FM2+ ATX A88X-G45 Motherboard   |   8GB 1600MHz RAM   |   MSI GTX 760 GPU (Reference)
  • Thermaltake Versa H22 Case   |   1TB Seagate, 0.5TB Hitachi (7200RPM)   |   ArcticRed+ 700WStock    |   Windows 8.1
