JME

I heard that 980 SLI won't really make that much difference to a single 980 is this true?

No it will definitely in most games, especially at higher resolutions.

it will be about twice the perfomance. if your already maxxing out games no problem, then there is no need. but if you are getting sub 60 fps(or whatever your monitor supports) then you will see a benfit.

It makes diffrence, a big one on games that have good sli scaling but since you're paying more than a 1k usd (for refrence, you might be just paying 700 euros, I don't know) I suggest a Titan X

As long as the game supports SLI you will get 150 to 200% performance improvement

It will have a massive impact over a single 980. That's a different question to "is it worth it" though. No number of 980s are worth the price excess over the same number of 970s imo.

How about 2 EVGA GTX 980 Classified or 2 of the upcoming GTX 980 ti if your budget allows it OP?

Ironically I own a GTX 970

There are a lot of idiots out there too.

Frankly, if you're playing at 1080p 60hz then it'll not make a hugely noticeable impact; you'll already be at 60fps ultra 90% of the time. It certainly would not be worth it.

If you're at 1440p, 5760x1080, or 4k, then SLI and Crossfire can really help you get the most out of it. You'll notice a nice bump in framerate, or be able to up the settings and still get smooth gameplay. Typically, SLI scaling on AAA games is 70-80%, which is really good.

Read the 980SLI reviews. There are lots of them.  Start here: http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/geforce-gtx-980-sli-review,1.html

The bottom line is it depends on the game.  Every game is built differently and the amount of extra performance you gain will depend on how it's coded.  Tomb Raider for example is a GREAT SLI game.  Games like.. starcraft.. not so great.

It is a huge difference. In some games it´ll double the performance.

But if you plan to stick with 1080p 60Hz, heck even 144Hz in 1080p then stay with one card.

Or get 2 and get 400FPS in D3 or go home ;).

Will come in handy for the latest AAA titles not matter what resolution your playing at 1080p/1440p/4k etc. if your only playing at 1080p 60hz then it will properly not be worth it. However if your playing at 120/144hz then yes get another. Remember no one nows the future of gaming things will be more gpu/cpu intense.

ur gpu purchased should always match ur monitor.

If u game at 1080p 60hz theres lil to no benefit for sli, cuz u probabbly have 60fps on 90% of all the games.

theres no reason for 400fps on a 60hz panel =.=
