Very misleading to compare it to a xbox 360 and not a xbox one.

At the end he compared the streaming to the xbone, and by a very high margin.

I wonder how much the 1080p 60fps sub will cost, and in the future I don't see why we couldn't do 4k (depending on network speeds).

Pffft. You know these are glorified android devices?

Knowing nvidia and the tegra track record it'll miss out on an update because they aren't releasing drivers.

Glorified candy crush machine.

150ms delay on the streaming service? Ouch, that's unplayable with a mouse. The whole "cloud gaming" thing was terrible to begin with, just make in-home streaming from your main-PC more convenient.

Oh, and let me guess, all of these announcements will be part of the "nvidia ecosystem", i.e. a walled garden of proprietary bs that'll only work properly and have all its features available if you run Nvidia exclusively. No thanks, I'd rather have a third party that isn't affiliated with either GPU manufacturer make these kinds of devices and services, as soon as you buy into this crap you'll be stuck with Nvidia for more than one GPU generation. It's the exact same argument as it was with G-sync, you severely limit you options in the future for a feature (or service) that'll be openly available in a year or two anyway.

The only way this would've interested me is if it could be used as a steam inhome-streaming device and an all-purpose media thingy. Then again, I probably can build a HTPC that does exactly that and more for around that price.

they also demoed it running borderlands the pre sequel :   (at 30fps.. eh though still good)  and the talos principle :      +  small announcements,,, doom3 bfg edition will be on android (nvidia shield)

That's unacceptable. nVidia being such a huge proponent of gaming shouldn't allow any game to run at less than 1080p 60fps with high or ultra details. This console is complete garbage in my book.

How exactly does this "redefine" gaming?

  • GRID?   Cool, I guess. I can't imagine many people using it.
  • Console?   Another Android micro-console *yawn*. At least it comes with free games. PS4s and XB1s are more expensive, but more powerful and will still buy them over the Nvidia console because of brand name alone. If it can stream desktop PC games (with AMD, Intel or Nvidia GPUs) it could be a good option.
  • Shield TV?   4K 60FPS Android TV is cool but has nothing to do with gaming. $200 is a little pricey though, considering there are no 4K 60FPS TV shows to watch.

Come on Nvidia, people who are serious about gaming want PC grade hardware, not set-top boxes. I'm waiting for more Maxwell GPUs.

Wow im pretty impressed! definitely going to snatch one up, its really cool!

  • GRID?
  • Console?
  • Shield TV?

Grid is pretty revolutionary and I think its definitely a potential for future gaming, where you no longer need a high end computer or console to play games

Imagine having a smart watch that can stream all your PC games to your TV, no console or PC required  etc - massive future potential - sure its baby steps but still revolutionary!!!

Android consoles have great potential, especially powerful ones, great for gaming, movies, music, etc - better than the terrible smart tv interfaces, and will have game stream for your PC - brilliant! now I dont need a second PC or anything in another room

no TV is not gaming, but most normal people watch shows and movies,, sure not much is  in 4k yet, but slowly we are getting there, if the tech is there, the content will come

Xbox One is 1280 GFLOPS, PS4 is 1840 GFLOPS and Nvidia Console 512 GFLOPS. Nvidia took 5 years to produce something that is less than half as powerful as a PS4 or Xbox One. If only they had released it 5 years ago...

Edit: Actually this is good news for PS4 and Xbox One owners, as it means that if Nvidia's Slower Console can support 4K, soon PS4 and Xbox One should be able to support it too

SNIP

This thing is half the price and cost, 1/4 the size and more energy efficient

It can also play a big library of PC games without needing on board power using grid - its not trying to be a traditional console, its also not using x86 parts so hard to compare the ps4 etc

How is the Smart TV different from the Shield console?

Can't really give my opinion on those two before I know what the difference is. I don't like GRID though. I don't like the idea of having to pay each month to continue playing a limited selection of games. The thought of an additional 150ms of input lag (probably even more), and the decrease in image quality just completely ruins it for me.

I like how it's compared to the 360 not one or PS4.

Also glossy shield is a fingerprint magnet.

I doubt a tiny $200 ARM android console could compete with the basically PC hardware of the PS4

You dont touch it? so fingerprints are not a big issue

I agree.

You will touch it, when you unbox it and setup that thing, when you clean you will have to touch it then clean it.

I spit my wine all over my keyboard when i saw this. I said this must be a joke, then i realized nivida is trying to hard to create a product ecosystem.

It's also something that bothers me, such a closed ecosystem grants too much power to one company.
