Internet access as a human right: 83% of users say so

brownninja97

41401_01_survey_most_users_believe_inter

How do we react to this, we have had a standard for the basic human rights for a while now eg education, shelter, gaming.

So now the internet could be added into the mix.

83% of internet users say that internet should be available to everyone at an affordable price and it should be stable.

Thats a hard thing to think of and a very expensive wish considering around 1/3 of people have internet access at the moment mainly due to third world countries and Comcast.

There are also some other funny stats eg

  • 36 per cent believe private information on the Internet is very secure
61 per cent are concerned about their own government monitoring their online activity
62 per cent are concerned about foreign governments monitoring their online activity
74 per cent are concerned about companies monitoring their online activities and selling that information without their consent

But you know what would be more interesting, if we were told how many people were part of this survey and what countries it was mainly based in.

Furthermore action is stronger then words. I want faster speeds before more people, that should be a bigger priority.

With verizon, I payed $50 per month for 1.5-3Mb down until I realized that was insane and move to comcast.  Now I'm paying the same amount for 25Mb (actual 30 Mb).

;). I am pretty satisfied with my 60/20 for 40$ but it still sucks that people can get speeds that are that good for 70$/month...

The right to free internet should be an amendment in the Constitution. I'm sick of people charging us upwards of 100 dollars just so they can have speeds barely faster than dialup.

The food industry is slowly taking our health away by putting all kinds of highly processed crap in their food and we don't even know it.

Before we add that to the list let's just make sure we're not violating the ones that are already on there first.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

Yeah Australian internet is just sad.

Although to clarify, I don't live in a built up area (green field for miles). As we say in Ireland, "I live in the back arse of nowhere". I am still one of the lucky ones though as I am still reasonably close to Dublin. If you go west you are looking a Kb/s download speeds in the non built up areas.

Actually processed is bad. What would you rather have, a nice fresh apple, or a pile of overproccessed Twinkies?

I was referring more to monoculture, mass production, irresponsible methods of agriculture, and the monopoly in the meat industry.

Processed just means that it came out of the factory.

I'm personally fine with processed foodstuffs, like tofu being an example. (Some at least...)

But irresponsible usage of GMOs without thinking of future consequences is unbearable..

Did you watch Food Inc.?

I would like this topic to be on the next WAN show and the posts dont need to be a bunch of complaints

minced beef is proccessed beef. yet is fine. also i live in the UK never had a twinkie. also have higher food standards than US, on poptarts imported from the us they have to cross out and paste over the food labels.

Processed foods typically are worse for you than unprocessed foods, and it usually adds some things to foods that are not very good for humans..

I'd say its more of just sharing out how bad off it is for some people rather than a contest.

I wouldn't call it a right more so than I'd call giving a kid an iphone a right, it's a privilege. However, this doesn't excuse ISPs for holding that privilege ransome. The government's only legitimate role is to protect the nation from threat, the citizens and prevent fraud and the ISPs damn well fall under that.

The way I read the title it sounded in my head like 83% of users said "no" to net neutrality.

First thing I thought was

"Yeah, users from the FCC maybe"

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)
