Metal plate against PCB

RASQ

I just got a Fractal Node 304. When you attach a 2.5" drive the bottom is pressed against the metal hard drive mount. One of my drives is mechanical and has an exposed PCB on the bottom. Can letting it touch the metal drive mount cause it to short out?

The case is grounded, so it shouldn't.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Possibly, if a point with current flowing through touches the grounded metal of the case, but why are you mounting a drive to the floor of a Node 304?

Yes it can short. Put some plastic or paper sheet in between them so that no metal parts touch the PCB.

Plz dont listen to all those people who dont know about how electricity works...^^^^^

If it is the aluminum casing of the drive touching the metal mount it is fine but if the PCB contacts are touching that's not a good idea since it can short between those points on the PCB as Enderman has said, better to be safe than sorry with storage drives.

I think you misread my post. I meant the bottom of the drive is against the metal drive mount.

Anyway, I just thought of something. I'll just run to the hardware store and grab a few rubber washers just to be safe.
