Just bought Gigabyte r9 290 OC, Best for my money?

          I bought a gigabyte R9 290, and being 16 I wanted to make sure I made the right choice with my money. I bought it off of NewEgg for a total of $374. It did come with 3 free games from the AMD gift thing. (Don't plan on using it)

          It's a little over kill in comparison to what I've used which is a EVGA GeForce 7800 GTX (8 year old card). I've spent month's looking for a good upgrade. And I feel like this was my best option for my money.I just want to make sure it was. So some confirmation that it's a good card from the LTT community will let me sleep well.

Just make sure your CPU doesn't bottleneck the system. The 290 is a great card, no questions.

Gigabyte cooling is real good and the quality is great. The 290 is really the only card to consider right now when going high end because it's most of the performance of a 290x/780ti and it costs much less. You made the smartest choice. Rest well and game well because you bought a 290.

You could call it $300 if you manage to sell the games for $20 each.

In hinesty i have kinda lost track on me thinking any low end card is really price to performance, where as the 290 will do greatly

What i mean is ive lost track of money and js actuall value as i see things that cost a bunch then things that dont and i have money for all the stuff even at 14

this is true the gb cooler is still failry good though, it gets a little loud but often costs 50$ less than somthing like a twin froser

better than stock and on par with asus really, at least for 290Xs.

 

I would assume the same for a 290 since it's a slightly kneecapped 290X.

yeah it does a good job at cooling, i have a 280x windforce running minecraft afk while im lieing ing bed and i hear it, but it only gets to about 50c and isnt much louder than my hdd and when i have my room fan running you cant hear it

Also a way i lookt at buying gpus is;

A) how many years do you plan on using this card

B) whats the cost

C) divide the cost by how many years you plan to use it say you use your 400$ card for 4 years, then its basicly 100$ a year, and what ever you buy i like to keep its ratio of about 100$/ year

My GB 290-OC hasn't hit over 80*c once, usually tops out at 77*c, not even that loud until it hits 65%+ fan speeds.

 

Be happy destroying all games with 50-100fps Maxed out in Varied titles.(Crysis3.8xAA>BF4Ultra)

I'm running two GB 290's in crossfire, one hits around 86"c, the other stays around 76"c. They're a bit too loud for my liking but ehh, they were cheap and crush games.

OP here, I just want to thank every one for letting me know it was a good choice, it makes me feel better.
Just to let people know, I have a low end rig right now. But I'm saving up to build a new one. I just had to get a new GPU because the one I've been using is 9 years old.
My current system:
CPU: AMD A10-5800K APU

Mo-bo: MSI FM2-A55M-E33
Mem: Crucial Ballistix Elite 4GB DDR3

GPU: EVGA GeForce 7800 GTX

PSU: 400Watt

I just want to know what kind of PSU to get. I was thinking of getting a Corasair HX850

A 750w PSU is more than enough to power a i5 and 2 290's if you ever go that way.  Corsair PSUs are generally excellent.

650w is enough, however it will get loud under load due to being @ or above 50% usage so its fan will kick up in speed.

It's why the better choices are 750+w for your intended usage and low noise.

 

The Quadcore you have is still speedy for all titles, but the topend FPS will be limited a little, although your gunna love it regardless.

As you already plan on moving to more powerful in the future, its win win for the 290.

And although you already know, I'll say it. 8Gb of System Ram is preferred for gaming (with shoddy ports) and whatnot eating up more than they used to (Plus Windows and the rest) then 4GB is nearing the end of being enough for Gamers.
