GTX 980 and GTX 970

The original rumor was that the 800 series which is now the 900 series was supposed to be priced better than previous *70 and *80 releases in the past. Since then...many have been playing the guessing game. Will Nvidia show us some love?! The Phillipines prices are relevant but as with anything, discounts for buying in bulk allow e-tailers like Newegg to price more competitively. I am in a unique financial position to buy any one of them but for me it's all about value. If the 980 is too high I will wait until the next series to purchase it and get a 970 or 780. I am curious to see what the pricing on the 780 Ti will be. The prices are going to go down on 700's...pretty much a given! In a few days all shall be revealed...

There, happy?!  :)

What will be your next upgrade?

Wait till they announce stuff officially there are multiple rumours some saying that 980 will be less powerful than a 780 TI and others saying it's going to blow it out the water.

Probably a 980, but only if I can get one for AUD$550 or less, otherwise I'll be looking at the 970 or best AMD card under that limit

I'll get whatever $500 Nvidia card is best in March 2015. It'll most likely be the GTX 780 or 970.

You put no option in the poll to say I am not upgrading.  I will not be buying a video card likely for 2+ years.

From the specs and benchmarks I am seeing so far all of them have much lower power consumption. That might be a 980 Ti which may cost a tidy sum! We shall see though!

Waiting for 20nm was my original intentions too. Unfortunately I had to sell off my GTX 760 FTW to get back on an unlocked Intel i7. So right now I have NO video card and dying to play Skyrim again!

Could always get a R7 260x, I've seen those for ~$110 on sale. I'm RMA'ing my 290 so I'm using my 7790 (identical to the 260x) and I get ~120 fps on BF4 medium settings, very playable. But 20nm GPU's are probably another year out though so... yeah :P

EDIT: LOL @ nvidia, they should have dropped the price to that a year ago when the 290 came out...

Yeah for all I know there could be a GTX 770 Ti coming. Nvidia usually only does the in-between tier Ti cards when there is a market for them at those price points which helps them compete with AMD's pricing. This series is supposed to be super low power consumption which translates to less heat. The fans are supposed to be 0dB until needed to cool. It worries me a little bit that if some cards are faulty and the fans never spin up there could be more RMA's than ever before. But with less power, less heat, and less noise AMD is going to be really under the gun for their next gen cards. For me it all depends on value though. All that is GREAT but what does it cost?! The ARM core is another interesting thing. Many are assuming that it will make driver updates automatic and that's it...but we don't know for sure. What if GeForce Experience (optimization) is also built in! Too many possibilities to speculate! I'm 100% enthusiast but it's true that it is a guessing game at this point.

Yeah, right now I am still all about the aftermarket coolers too. My CM HAF XM has 140mm x2 right where they need to be for the video card. Why everybody wants windows on their case is beyond me. For me it's all about maximizing cooling and overclocking! But in the future when I finally do some righteous liquid cooling I will be all about the reference....it's all part of my 5-year plan! :) The 980 is going to be simply irresistable...just like the song! :P

This graph again, realy makes me laught.

Overclocked GTX980 Sli just barely beats a R9-290 reference crossfire at stock 947Mhz.

My next upgrade will be a R9-290 or a R9-390X Bermuda XTX.

R9-290 still the better bang for my €

I'm planning on liquid cooling the 980. There are now EK blocks for the major aftermarket cooler makers. The reason I want an aftermarket model is for a shorter PCB. I am going to do a custom loop in my 350D so space is pretty tight. Many of the aftermarket 780's were about an inch shorter than the reference design.

That's great! I wish I could afford liquid cooling right now but it's just not in the cards. I am planning CM Nepton 280L with Noctua Industrial IP67 2000RPM 140mm PWM fans x4 in push/pull. I should have this up and running by Oct. 1st which is my birthday. It's the best I can do for the time being. I consider EK blocks to be the best and will use them myself when I finally do custom loops again. I am trying to get the product manager at Cooler Master on board for my computer case concept but so far he is really busy! My case concept allows for (3) 280/240mm radiators in push/pull configuration. I know I would love it because I love 140mm fans for increased airflow and lower noise. I already know I am going to have to remove the top from my CM HAF XM in order to do push/pull. I wish there was another 140mm friendly case but the XM is still the best option I can find. The NZXT H630 is a possibility but I wonder how much airflow is restricted due to it being a silent case. There's no fans around the GPU area either which is always a consideration for me. I would have to liquid cool a GTX 980 myself.

To each his own I guess!

Yes its totaly personal, realy.

I like both AMD and Nvidia gpu´s.

Just if all the rumours that i have read about the new maxwell gpu´s, they just dont impress me.

If the rumours are right the GTX980 will not beat a GTX780Ti, This means that it will be inbetween a 780 and 780Ti.

If i look at the rumoured prices of those new maxwell cards, then in my opinnion the 290 is better bang for my euro.

I personaly dont realy care about the software feutures that Nvidia cards have to offer, simply because AMD cards also have theire own equilivants to most of them.

In the end a GPU Nvidia or AMD choice is just a personal thing for everyone.

Allways choose the brand which makes you feel the most comfortable.

And if you have any doubt which way AMD or Nvidia to go, then its allways good to ask some advice.

But never let you misslead from fanboys / girls of both sides, spewing allot of irrelevant nonsense.

Allways choose for the card, that makes you feel happy.

Because at the end i dont care which card you choose :D
