Ryzen 3 motherboard question.

I'm looking to build a light gaming/photo editing rig for my sister.  I'm trying to do it as cheaply as possible since she doesn't have a ton of fundage.  I was looking at Ryzens and had thought the 2200g looked like a good cpu for the price.

I then started looking at motherboards, but it seems any of the a/b series chipsets say they will likely require a bios update to work with the CPU I've chosen.  Does anyone have any sort of experience with this CPU and that chipset?  Or should I just go for the x370 chipset and be safe?

so any first gen ryzen board may need one, but most should have the bios updated by now and if not you can order from AMD a chip to flash it then send it back.

look at a 2400G, its a little more but you gain more CPU and GPU power.

Do you not have B450 or X470 boards in your area? They are the updated versions. I don't imagine you needing an X board, a B450 should be fine. You should be able to fine a decent board for around or under $100

Going for MB in the 400 series would be your best option. In my opinion. You should be good until 2020,That is when Ryzen will change chipsets.

True , but the difference is about 20.00$ us in Newegg usa.

 

The lest expensive MSI   B350 is  69.00$us

The lest expenside MSI   B450 is  89.00$ us

20$ is a larger SSD or maybe a 2400G if you had a little spare.

300 series boards wont run with second gen ryzon.Unless you boot them and upgrade bios.So save bet is b450.Unless OP has first gen ryzon somewhere.boot kit is not an option is all contries.

A320/B350/X370 works out of the box with the Ryzen 1000 series (Ryzen 3 1200 for example) & might need a BIOS update to use Ryzen 2000 series CPUS/APUs (Ryzen 3 2200G) that would require a 1000 series CPU, B450/X470 boards work out of the box with both the 1000 & 2000 series.

If you go with the Ryzen 3 2200G, I'd say spend the extra on a B450 to be safe instead of buying a A320/B350 only to find out BIOS would need to be updated & spend more on a older CPU to do the update.

Also, if you go with the 2200G, make sure whatever Mobo you get got video outputs on it to use the iGPU of the 2200G, unless you plan on buying a dedicated GPU for it.

95% of boards by now should have the bios. based on profile hes in the US.

Actually more like 5%.I bought asus x470 strix in US last week.It came with march bios,if it would be x370 chipset i wouldnt be able to boot.Ax and b350 pretty much the same if not worse.

um it may, the chips launched early April and they started rolling BIOS out for 1st gen boards mid march or early April.

Sure budget models first no?Boards are produced couple of months before they get to general sale.I actually havent seen a mobo of 300 series which would run 2 gen chip out of the box.Sticker 2000 series ready doesnt mean it has required bios.
