Windows running incredibly slow after motherboard swap

So I recently moved most of my parts into a mini itx case, with a different motherboard than I normally use. My system ran fine for a few days, but eventually Windows started taking forever to load literally anything. I was using an asrock fatality b450 gaming mini itx motherboard. Opening a browser or even a wav file takes forever. Even Discord is affected, when I try to mute myself with the hotkeys I have set it will literally take up to 30 seconds for the input to be taken by discord. I've this system take minutes to open things. It's so unresponsive it's just frustrating. I'm running on a Samsung 850 EVO SSD, so there's not really a reason for the computer to be this slow. Once these side effects started to appear, I switched back to my normal motherboard, and the system was fine for a few days, but now it's showing all of these issues again! I have no idea what to do.

Did you reinstall windows after the swap? Could be drivers interfering if not.

I was wondering if that was the issue. I used to run on an intel cpu with this install of windows, so I have a ton of old drivers that might be conflicting.

 

I kind of wanted to avoid a windows re-install, but it's probably what's best for my system.

Rule of thumb is to always clean reinstall for a motherboard change

You may use Ghostbuster tool to remove old drivers, but it's unusual and it's not how drivers works - they cannot magically works bad after few days. You may try to just install all drivers again, but I would check sata cables first. No reinstall is needed.

No, do not reformat anything except if you're using computer only for changing wallpaper and for one browser plus steam - then it may be the onlly hobby you have. And you'll feel like professional who possess a secret knowledge of installing operaing system.

I reinstalled windows and my system is back to normal!
