Wich one should I buy?

Go to solution Solved by ArcticSalad,

When considering power supplies, always consider the individual unit rather then the brand. For example, both Corsair and EVGA make some of the highest end units on the market but at the same time make some incredibly poor quality units as well.

All of the units listed are of very poor quality/reliability with the exception being the be quiet! System Power - it's a pretty decent unit. If those are your only options I would go with that one.

Otherwise you could go with anything tier 3 or higher on the PSU tier list.

The following is a list with the PSUs available in my local store:

  • EVGA 600W 80 PLUS BRONZE ($60)

  • THERMALTAKE SMART 600W 80 PLUS RGB ($60)

  • EVGA 600W 80 PLUS ($50)

  • CORSAIR VS650 80 PLUS ($54)

  • BE QUIET! SYSTEM POWER 500W - 80 PLUS BRONZE ($50)

  • BITFENIX BPA 600W 80 PLUS ($44)

I don't really know much about PSUs, I can tell that one of those EVGA would be OK (it shouldn't explode xD)  for up to a GTX 1070 but since the price difference is very little. I want to know wich one is the best choice between these models. I was thinking about the EVGA Bronze because of one review I read (just the conclusion, I didn't understand technical details). I'm not from the US so I don't have access to those nice units from Seasonic, not at my curremt budget. It is going to be use in at medium to high end gaming system. Currently rocking a Pentium and GTX 1050 but there is going to be an upgrade, maybe to a 8th generation i5 or a Ryzen 5 and something like a RX 580/ GTX 1060 for the GPU. Also, I have many fans and hard drives (1 SSD, 2 HDD). My current PSU is a piece of *****, in case anyone cares

For a gtx 1070 and current gen i7, it won't use more than 350 watts at load, so anything over the 500 mark is PLENTY. For comparison sake, the PC in my sig under game load doesn't even pull more than 400-430, and that is also with the 1080 OCed to 1999 core clock... PC parts are becoming increasingly more efficient.

That said, I personally use corsair PSU's and have had great luck and great customer support on the one I did have start to fail YEARS ago. I have used A LOT of cx 430's, has to be about 10 at this point, and all are still working perfect. I am not as familiar with the new VS series, but I do know its the "decent value" option.

That said, EVGA makes great products, I am 100% brand loyal to them with GPU's as I have had amazing support from them in the past, and they make great products. I have had a few GPU's die on me over the years and EVGA has been a pleasure to work with.

Thermaltake used to make some great PSU's, but these days I personally have no idea. I still have a 850 from them that I got back in 07-08 and it works great, but that was when they where pretty well known for good quality PSU's. Not sure if that is still the case..........

Same with bitfenix and be quiet. Both are solid names, but I don't know much about them from a quality standpoint. I am sure you can't go wrong with any of them tho. Ultimately, if you get unlucky, it will be a small chance and will not be indicative of the brand overall. Anything can fail, its just luck. All of those names are respectable.

If I had to choose, I would either go with EVGA or Corsair.

I know it's $20ish more than average on your list, but the $20 is worth it.

These are Tier 2 supplies, and probably the best one you can ask for (used to be Tier 1 until there were issues with AMD Vega compatibility).  They have a 10 year manufacturer's warranty, and are built like tanks.

I know that the price difference in Newegg and Amazon is just $10 but I have to buy other components and at my local store, so there is a significant price gap that I can't afford. I have no doubts  that those units are super reliable but I have to choose between these ones.

The following is a list with the PSUs available in my local store:

  • EVGA 600W 80 PLUS BRONZE ($60)

  • THERMALTAKE SMART 600W 80 PLUS RGB ($60)

  • EVGA 600W 80 PLUS ($50)

  • CORSAIR VS650 80 PLUS ($54)

  • BE QUIET! SYSTEM POWER 500W - 80 PLUS BRONZE ($50)

  • BITFENIX BPA 600W 80 PLUS ($44)

All rather crap, but the System Power 9 (or U9) is the best of those

The Bitfenix Formula 450-550W is way better and not much more expensive...

EVGA in general is (at the moment) really not great because you get better units from the competition for the same amount of money...

If the lineup of a company is good or not is always relative in comparisation to the competion.
