Who is the 9900K for?

Ryzen 3000's going to be probably $300 for the 8 core with probably 85-90% of the same performance. Might even have something higher than 8 cores

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

i expect 10 or 12 cores, barely 10% slower in SOME games, but that's still like 6 months out, and it won't be 300dollars, probably closer to 400.

I just hope they deliver... Single-thread performance within 5% of the 8700K with boosts to more than 4.5Ghz are what it needs to succeed in my book.

If I wait for Zen 2 and they don't deliver, then Intel I go whether it's a 14nm+++++++++++ or 10nm CPU. No looking back at that point.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

If you are enthusiastic, you like this PC hardware world a lot and also have money, or rather money is not a problem for you, go for the 9900k without problems. Now if the problem is that you do not have money to spend so easily, then look for a more balanced configuration, in short nothing of what you do with a 9900k, it will not do with an 8700k.I would upgrade to Coffe Lake from Haswell, but I would not do it from Skylake / Kaby Lake, but good for me the money is not very easy, I have to think about the updates well.

People like my brother lol. Back in 2015 he bought a 980 ti HOF and an i7 4790k, which was the best shit for gaming back then. He paired it with a 1600x900 60hz monitor he got for free from our hs. I always told him that it wasn't a good value proposition, but he said and I quote: "I don't care if it makes sense. I don't care if I could get better price/performance. I just want the best." - My older brother circa 2015

If he wanted the best he wouldn't have bought a HOF card lol.

It boosts to 1515mhz out of the box so I beg to differ. Doesn't OC a single Mhz higher but its still a beast at stock. Close to a 1080 in performance.

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

Stop it. You're being silly now.

Its a shame he lives in Virginia (blame the navy) otherwise I would just snag it and run a couple benchmarks to prove it. I can say for sure it does boost to 1500mhz no problem though, believe it or not. Aside from maybe a kingpin 980 ti, it definitely is the best there is.

I am disappointed with intel to some extent, the 9th generation is nothing more than Skylake Refresh Refresh Refresh, there is nothing new in the 9900k architecture, only additional cores and high frequencies. As for the z390 chipset, native wifi and usb3.1. I do not plan to update until something less than 14nm arrives, with changes in architecture. I hope that something like the passage of the Pentium D over the 3Ghz to the Core2 Duo with lower speed and much more IPC, was something beautiful, like It happened also with the arrival of Sandy Bridge. The truth is that we are at 14nm since 2015. I think Ryzen3 forced things, that AMD has lifted the flight again has benefited us.
