Why does the 2080 suck more than 1080 TI ?

zindan

Why would I pay an extra 300$ for a 2080 when I can get a 1080 TI and get better performance?

Why is the card so bad, what is wrong with it?

I expected both the 2080 and 2080 ti to definately deliver more fps compared to the 1080 ti but no... only the 2080 TI goes above 30-40+ average fps over the 1080 ti.

Why is it like this ?

WITH THAT SAID!

Imagine how the 2070 will suck.... ? I mean wtf, they said the 2070 would be better than the 1080 ti. I strongly doubt it now that I have seen the 2080 perform. I doubt a cheaper card will do better than the 2080.

the 2080 actually IS a little faster than the 1080ti. But the reason for that is because nvidia is greedy af and wants to milk the customers.

Actually, the 2080 is ever so slightly faster than the 1080Ti.

That said, yeah, definitely not worth the price increase. It's early adopters' tax for ray tracing and jiggerays.

It's like an average of 1-4% faster.... I swear with those statistics we can easily say that the 1080 ti is a better bet 20000000 times in the week.

Alright, fuck this. I sold my 1080 ti strix OC 6-9 months ago just so I could get the new version but fuck that. I am getting the following card.
1080 TI EVGA

Why did you expect this? Past history of previous generations had the new X80 card perform similarly to the previous generations X80 Ti and new generations have generally followed an overall pattern of the newer generation cards being one model up in terms of performance compared to the previous generation (ie. 970 = 1060. 780 = 970). If anything, the performance figures of the 2080 compared to the 1080 ti are exactly what you should have expected.

There is a lot of new tech in it which you cant use right now as there is nothing out of the doors that uses it.

The price is ridiculous anyways and since you cant use the new tech now, 1080ti makes more sense today for cheaper.

Also 1080ti has more VRAM (11GB vs 8GB on 2080).

If they just refreshed 1080ti with GDDR6 it would absolutely obliterate the 2080 in performance and narrowed the gap a lot with the 2080ti.

The main selling point is the Ray-Tracing feature. Which is useless at the current state of games/softwares

They perform faster than 1080Ti, though 2080 performs similarly to 1080Ti (or maybe worse) in most game titles.

RTX 2080 and 2080Ti are designed for ray tracing, the 1080Ti isn't. Most games don't support ray tracing either so you can't really enjoy the feature, the 1080Ti for now makes more sense for performance you get for the price if you seek gaming performance.

Wait wait, so if I wait for the ray tracing bullshit money sucking fake technology to be implemented in most games and use it with a 2080, then I would also get a fat fps decrease right? So with ray tracing it will perform even worse compared to the 1080ti

so more PANIC! GPUS ARE DEAD PANIC! If you dont consider them a value don't buy them. We kept buying titans buying expensive or well more expensive titans up to 1200 dollar special edition Titans with Star Wars on them. Due to memory and new tech prices sure they were gonna go up. But reason their up THIS much...we proved we will pay the price for them. STOP BUYING 1200 dollar GRAPHICS cards!

Well, that's just plain old stupidity on your part.

Why would you sell your card to purchase the newer model up to 9 months before they are released for sale? Going by that logic you should sell your processor now in anticipation for Intel to release 7nm CPUs.

You could say "The 2080 only has a 1-4% performance increase, so the cheaper 1080ti gives you better performance per dollar" which might be true, but what you just said makes absolutely no sense.

Sure, if you pick the cheapest 1080ti to compare against the most expensive RTX 2080 you can show a difference in price. But you can also find some models of RTX 2080s that are cheaper than some models of GTX 1080tis.

Asus GTX 1080ti Strix = 9790

Gigabyte RTX 2080 Windforce = 9290

Current state no. If you like eye-candy graphics (ray-tracing) I would say yes but the bigger problem is that you can't use ray-tracing right now.

In tests that I have seen, testers that use 1080 ti reference cards the 2080 wins more. The testers using partner cards the 2080 wins less.

I have EVGA SC2 1080 tis. That is what GamersNexus used for testing against the 2080.  My card would own any founders card that is not overclocked.

The parner 2080s will do a lot better.

It's a new tech, the 2080 and 2080Ti will be replaced anyway in the future with GPUs that are more efficient and faster.

1080Ti for ray tracing performs very poorly compared with 2080 and 2080Ti.

Now stop being a smartass and tell me what to buy instead, thank you.

Well if this thread was your way of asking for help to choose a graphics card, I have got to say you've gone about it in the wrong way.

If you would like help choosing a graphics card, provide the specs of the rest of your system, along with what monitor you will be using, what resolution/refresh rate you are hoping to achieve and whether or not it has Freesync/Gsync. Also specify your budget for the graphics card.
