Samsung 49inch Curved Monitor - All sizzle and no steak?

So my buddy showed me this monitor:

And i immediately began drooling at the idea of using this kind of monitor, but since there are monitors like this https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/alienware-34-curved-gaming-monitor-aw3418dw/apd/210-amsv/monitors-monitor-accessories that go for a similar price that are way smaller.  I'm curious if anyone has really looked into the validity of this type of monitor at that high of a size.

 

basically i need a reality check for this monitor, i want it! lol

It's only $1100? I thought it was going to be much more expensive. Hell I'd buy it if I had the $$$

I wouldn't get one. Not at 1080p. Resolution is simply not there.

I didn't realize it was 1080p either, so if i go for a curved monitor, it should at least be 1440p right?

It's more the size. 1080p is fine for 24" and lower, but anything higher I'd go at least 1440p.

It's also personal preference though. Some people can cope with the pixelation.

its 1080p, its ~95 ppi.

Honestly, its nothing special, as alreayd mentioned .. 2x 24" panels together.

 

now if it was 5120 x 1440 THEN it may be worth considering, even if it is still LCD tech.. but 1080p ..nah forget it.. especialy when their asking over $1000 for it.

I would agree, i have a 29 inch ultrawide at 1080p and it's good but stretching that out another 20 inches i think would be too much for 1080p.

Understand that in your example, you would not be stretching out the 1080p resolution,

29" 21:9  = ~11.5" screen height.

42" 32:9 = ~11.5" screen height.

So in your case you would gain from getting the 42" 32:9 screen over your current 29" 21:9. not that its worth it imo, but still.

49" 32:9 = ~13.3" screen height

That only applies when it's a 16:9 ratio. I'm running the numbers in my head right now and it's late so I could be wrong but I think at that aspect ratio the height is about the same as a 24" 16:9 monitor. The pixel density should be about the same.

Nope, as I've already pointed out, 32:9 is the same size as a 27" monitor. See the reply above yours; that's a 24" monitor. Smaller.

aspect ratio makes big difference 32:9 not 16:9 you still see the same height in games

and calling it 1080p is just off

 

1080p is 2 million pixels

1440p is 3.7 million pixels 1440 uw is like 5 million pixels

4k is 8.3 million pixels

 

this is 4.1 million pixels

 

I use 6.2 in surround

this is like 2/3 surround which would prolly be better for surround like gamers but they cant handle fisheye or bezels
