  • 2 weeks later...

build-log-header.png

Sadly, this will just be a text update, I haven't had time to take pics.

About a month ago my 1 year old 1TB Caviar Blue sadly died. Luckily it was under warranty, but I was in pursuit of a new drive anyway. I debated between getting a normal drive (barracuda, blue etc), or going for something a little more higher end.

I've now replaced my old 1TB Caviar Blue (which I've gotten back from RMA), with a 1TB WD RE4 drive :D

Reason being for the 1TB vs 2 or 3 TB:

  • I'm building a server soon, so about 300GB of media will be on the server vs. rig
  • 2TB were alot more expensive

Considering the computer is already built.... It's also not mainly a gaming rig.

770 is plenty powerful for gaming casually while still having a good amount of power for other things. I would probably be fine with a single 670 which is why on my ITX build I decided to go with a MSI 760 ITX rather than cramming a more powerful single GPU in there and giving up some other things.

Scratching my head at that one. Im quit not following were you are coming from. His GTX 770 is plenty enough for gaming and some for today's games. Unless you are just one of those few believers that if you get a really expensive CPU you must get the most expensive GPU to go along with it? but still that does not make sense either.

Dude it's like buying a 2 million $ house, and park a toyota in the alley. It doesn't make any sense.

But then again, we ain't have any right to criticize, it's his build. Love your build man, good job !

Thanks man.

But I'd equate it more to buying a $2 million house and driving a hummer. Sure, it's not the nicest car, but it does the job it's designed to do very well ;)

Even large builds have a budget and once you get into the ~$1500+ range builds become highly personalized for what that does or wants to do. This is also where you start to have room to choose parts based more on what you value verses sole performance. If you look at everything but the main parts that were pictured in the beginning the rest are kind of random. This is likely because he carried parts over from another build to save money since they were still good enough for his needs and in good condition. If you check out my desktop build anthrax its much of the same. originally it was actually only suppose to get a new processor, ram, and some more fans but that quickly spiraled out of control with my amazing luck.

I also dont think that comparison is any good at all really as there are probably plenty of people who have really nice houses and dont have a super car.
