1440p workstation monitor.

Chriz6097

I need a larger display (27") for working in Adobe products as well as some side gaming without loosing the pixel density of a 23". I've been looking at Korean monitors because I don't want to spend all that much on a monitor. I want a monitor with accurate color. I'm not sure if I should go with an LG panel because it's what Apple uses and they are known for productivity setups. But also the Samsung panel used in the x-star monitors is known to have "better color". To clarify my budget is $400 and stands or mounting is not an issue.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

If you seriously want to do color work either up your budget to grab a asus, dell or viewsonic 1440p monitor or for your price range a dell U2413. If you want to stay closer to your budget the monoprice glass panel pro is decent, but with most korean monitors that i've seen the colors are usually a bit over saturated if you don't have a color calibrator. Another thing you have to consider with the korean panels is color uniformity is not the best which can be a big issue.

When I had originally seen the Korean monitors reviewers made it seem like they were just as good as the apple displays

You'd be way better off saving your money 'til you can spend at the very least $800 on a professional monitor.

Are both excellent semi-professional - professional level displays.

They might be, but the apple monitors aren't the greatest of 2560x1440 monitors

Here is a review of the monoprice I mentioned earlier and as you can see it doesn't really compare

The mins for white and black are a not that great, lacks blue out of the box, and the uniformity of the monitor is where the price of these monitors really start to show up as not as great.

I think that I can stick with my current IPS 1080p monitor for color correctness and for viewing the footage which should be fine considering I only do 1080p video. I still want a 1440p monitor for the main monitor because of it's size and resolution. Are there any good korean monitors that would still work for a general purpose monitor?

I hear the x-star is good. I haven't tried any of them(have a dell 1440p), but that seems the most popular one atm.

As a creative professional and Adobe product user, I strongly advise you not to buy one of those cheap Korean monitors. You need color perfection and accuracy, and I would never , never buy a monitor without, brightness, contrast, color adjustment controls. Also 16:10 ratio is far better than 16:9 -I know that higher res seems like better option, but it is accuracy what you want not just more pixels. For that matter I would advise you to get a decent 8 bit panel (like U2410 or asus pa249 (or 8 I always mix up the numbers) or if you can afford it dell U2713...you won't regret this trust me.
