Havent played it for about a year now, but i did play it for like 7 years in a row.

Havent played it for months, because there's no Forge for 1.13

No option for 'poor game, fantastic lego simulator'.

 

'Survival mode' is awful, the procedurally-generated levels merely give the illusion of there being much to explore, but as a canvas for player creativity it's pretty freaking great. The redstone mechanics are incredibly crude (it'd be quicker and less fiddly just to whip out a breadboard than to build any kind of complex circuit in-game) but they're a great value-add, too.

I like redstone mechanics as a way to puzzle out building things in houses and mines but I havent played it much and not in a while

Because it's a tiny, repetitive loop, hampered by crude combat, AI, and spawn mechanics.
