R9 290X with Vapor X Cooler

              I was bored so i took the Vapor X cooler off my Sapphire 7970 GHZ Edition.(ps i still got the Toxic version)

I then installed it on my Sapphire R9 290X. I installed some gpu thermal pads, and small heat sinks on the power mosfet's.They're half way sticking and drooping.

I will buy some thermal adhesive and reapply them.But for now its in the rig and working.I will remove it,order some adhesive,and re install the 780Ti .

For now here are some pics.

You should put the 290x cooler on the 7970 and see what temps you get

Here's a run with valley no overclock just in uber mode.Fan speed set to up to 60%,and max temp set 80c in Catalyst Control Center.

Got a black screen with hard reboot while running it for 15 min(Valley benchmark). I think its because those mosfet heat sinks are not nailed down.

Will be ordering some thermal adhesive.That will teach those mini heat sinks.Anyways here a  shot.

Ps ....i cant even hear the fans speed up.When it was on the 7970 you could hear those fans working.

that poor gpu is freezing it will be sad under 90c

76*C with 28% fan speed.

 

I'm wondering if I can do the same with and slap my Dual-X cooler from my HD 7970 on a R9-290X.

 

The Dual-X and Vapor-X cooling solutions are relatively quiet ...until beyond  ~60% fan speed.

so now your down a 7970 and has noone noticed the copper block is rotated 45*? theres probably less cooling surface contact now, the only problem with the stock cooler is the blowers fans blades have a poor pitch angle, if they fixed that it'd be awesome, try the 780ti fan on the 290x cooler and see....
