What’s the worst part of your rig?

MeltyMoon

That I have a laptop which is OVERHEATING all the time when I play intense games :(

If I even can play the games...

Hi, I guess you just read this C:

Case: NZXT Phantom 530. Corsair 350D/250D, Define R4 Window, or NZXT H440 would have been better choices for me. Even a white 530 would be a big improvement. Anyone want to trade?

Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth Z87. Not a bad board, I just didn't need it. Could have saved money with something a bit more low key.

RAM: G Skill Rip Jaws 16GB (2x8). Should have done low profile.

GPU: GTX 780. Could have saved money elsewhere and gone with a Ti.

CPU: 4770k. Don't need the hyperthreading that much, could have done 4670k. Not really all that broken up about this.

Storage: 240GB SSD & 3TB HDD. Not broken up about this but would have liked a WD HDD rather than Toshiba. Maybe Raid a couple of them. Not that important.

Cooling: stock fans. I need to upgrade to water cooling and max out the air flow in there with some more fans.

Lighting: Didn't know my PSU came with an LED fan. I can turn it off though, so nbd. NZXT Hue was broken on arrival but it was a gift so I guess green is my color for now. Don't really like the look of LED strips in retrospect. LED fans when I upgrade airflow down the road.

Optical: Blu Ray drive. Could have saved cash and gone cheap on this, or not done it at all. That would make room for mounting HDDs up there.

Mouse: Deathadder, I'm fine with it.

KB: CM Storm Quickfire Pro. Red. Should have gone blue.

Monitor: Acer H236HLbid Black 23" Monitor. I like it a lot. No issues

Mic: Blue Yeti Condenser Microphone. Unnecessary, would probably return it if I could.

Headset: Logitech G930 Wireless Gaming Headset. Astro A50s would have been good for cross platform gaming.

The biggest thing for me is probably the case. It might be a bit too eccentric for me, especially if it's just another black tower. That and my cooling choices.

Another thing is a small paper tag on my fan wire that makes a lot of noise flapping around until I actually flick my case back.

Oh my gosh, finally a place to rant >:)

To start off, I spent around $850 CAD on my build, and with that money I got:

i5-4440 - $199

ASUS Z87-A - $149

ASUS Radeon 7850 - $150 (sales ftw)

Corsair CX600M - $49 (I think)

Corsair 200R - $50

Kingston HyperX blu red - $80

and now the cherry on the cake...

Seagate 5200rpm 4TB hard drive

As you can see, there are MANY things wrong with my rig, and I was a complete n00b about pricing back then (October last year,) so let me try to vent:

With the money I spent on my CPU and motherboard I could've had an FX-8350 and a high end 990FX motherboard

4TB 5200rpm drive, nuff said.

^ I could've had an SSD and a 1TB 7200rpm drive with that money!

The GPU was a good deal, so I'm not complaining :/

The worst thing is that my dad says no upgrades 'til University, meaning I'm stuck with this crap for 5 MORE YEARS!

So what's up with you guys? :D

Everything is being bottlenecked by a GTX 460 that has lifetime warranty. And I can't seem to fry the card to take advantage of the warranty..... embarrassing I know...

take the cooler off, turn the computer on, fry your card, put the cooler back on, send it in

right now, i would have to say my gpu, i was unfortunate enough that when i bought my Gigabyte 7970 OC edition, that i got the rev 2.1, in which they changed the layout so now no waterblock will fit it other than an ugly universal block, which makes it pointless to build a full loop :/

My case, it's impossible to route ANYTHING behind the Motherboard tray, judging by the fact that I use a Corsair GS700, I think you can understand why it's a bit of a bitch for me. Oh and my CPU fan will run, flat out no matter what you do with it, the only thing that works is using speedfan to set it manually, even the BIOS won't help it, runs at 100% constantly and it's got this strange whine at 100%, so turning it down makes the PC a TON quieter.

My front fan is kinda broken, it only works when i hit it.

sadly 200mm fans are not cheap.

The warranty would be voided if you take of the heatsink. Just unplug the fan, run FurMark, and try it over and over until it's dead. Then plug the fan in, and send it in.

its only voided if they have the stickers on the screws, my gigabyte card can be taken apart without voiding the warranty

At present, my fans on my Cooler Master Glacer 240L are mismatched, with one being the stock fan and the other being a random Xigmatek I had lying around. I managed to break a blade on the other stock fan and the stock fans are a specific model that can't simply be purchased outside of buying an entirely new Glacer for the sole purpose of harvesting a fan from it. I have two Cooler Master JetFlo 120s (white LED) coming in this Friday, however, so I'll be slapping those on instead.

I would have prefered to get Gigabyte's GHz Edition of the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, but I went with the EVGA SuperClocked with ACX cooling because I was able to get an irresistable deal on it.

Lastly, I regret having gone for the Sennheiser HD 558s when I could have had the HD 598s for a few dollars more. I think I was somewhat turned off by the colors of the HD 598s at the time, but the colors in the pictures have since grown on me and now I have a good but inferior pair of headphones in its place.

That it isnt technically mine (the case and cpu anyway), i bought the parts for dirt cheap off my very overpaid friend plus got some as favours for tidying his flat (hdmi cables, ethernet etc) and im now selling it to my missus for allot less than cost but more than I paid, she bought the case and cpu off me, hasnt paid the rest for nearly 9 months, im letting her use my spare rig....doh, because of that i never have the money to do MY rig.
only being sata 3...
only having a 640gb drive for storage.

not being able to store my data on my server because windows makes as much sense as llama...
not having my own 30meg fibre internet because im poor and sharing my friends/neighbours 15mb ADSL
not being able to get the xigmatek elysium anymore, been eyeing up that case for 2 years!!!

all my pc's are pretty sweet otherwise, sure theyre not a 4770k with a 780, but they cost half to build what that cpu+gpu alone do. and get 70% of the performance and if paid off wont have cost me anything.

I have no idea how to calculate the cost of my sig rig...
