Can I charge my phone with my laptop usb c charger?

achen1192

I think I might have seen this question before but I just want to be sure before I do this regularly,

So I have a dell xps 9370 and it came with a usb C charger, I was wondering if it was safe to charge my pixel with the charger.

I have plugged the xps charger into my pixel before and it said charging rapidly. Would be safe to do only use my laptop charger to charge my phone?

Any help would be appreciated

It should be fine although I wouldn't recommend it. A good charger like the one your laptop came with most likely has USB power delivery implemented correctly, with safety features like power delivery 2.0.

USB C power delivery works by the charger negotiating an appropriate voltage for the device. It should default to 5V (safe for phones) if the connected device doesn't negotiate properly, but I wouldn't trust a cheap Chinese charger to do that (and if it pushes more voltage it might fry your phone).
