Any software available that I can use to make/preferably import multiple playlists and burn them to a CD for use in the car? Having to add a number to each song in a folder to keep the order I want is very rapidly growing tedious.

Edit: bonus points if said hypothetical software can automatically convert anything not already .mp3 to .mp3.

Itunes is limited to just the one playlist. I'd like to burn several playlists and switch between them.

Foobar. You may need to edit playlist files manually as they are filepath specific by default.

There' probably some extension I'm not aware of, but it doesn't seem to be able to burn .mp3 discs, and at the very least, I can't seem to select multiple playlists to burn in one go.

Trying ImgBurn right now actually. I can build an image file and it appears that I can set the order for my music directly in the folders, though I won't know for sure it does what I want it to do until I try it in the car. Though it doesn't spare the PITA that is audio conversion.

Edit: I was able to figure out how to use Foobar to rename the songs so that the track number of the order I choose shows up. This will allow the songs to remain in order when I go to burn it to CD.

Foobar is for creating playlist and converting files. I'm not aware if it allows you to burn stuff as files, not as audio CD.

Even so, it was able to automatically rename my songs for me according to the order in the playlist. So when I went to burn the folders containing the songs, the order I set in the playlists were preserved.

First and foremost: Does your car CD player support playing MP3 Data CD's? If not, you will be limited to the standard Red Book single-session Audio CD, requiring all tracks to be converted to WAV and burned to disk totaling no more than 80 minutes. (Although some CD players do support multi-session Blue Book Audio CD's too.)

If you're unsure of this, consult the manual for your car or stereo prior to burning the CD to ensure you're burning a compatible format.

Desktop: KiRaShi-Intel-2022 (i5-12600K, 5060 Ti) Mobile: Moto Razr 50 Ultra (Razr+ 2024) | 30GB CAN+US+MEX $30/month
Laptop: Lenovo Yoga 7i (16") 82UF0015US (i7-12700H, 16GB/2TB RAM/SSD, A370M GPU) Tablet: Lenovo Tab Plus (256GB)
Camera: Canon M6 Mark II | Canon Rebel T1i (500D) | Canon SX280 Music: Spotify Premium (CIRCA '08)

I've been working on this for the past couple weeks here.

The car reads data/MP3 CDs just fine, though it is limited to playing WAV, MP3 and WMA, so a sizeable portion of my AAC (and FLAC) files had to be converted to .MP3 to play. Further, it (my car stereo) can read CD-RW (which was kind of the entirety of the point here), so I can just keep a couple CDs in the car, and change the tracks around on them whenever I feel like, without the threat of a ballooning CD-R collection.

Packet written discs are not supported, so the entire thing needs to be burned in one go, not a big deal with CD-RWs, but a fairly pricy learning curve with regular CD-Rs.

I used Foobar for a bit to make one playlist/folder to burn to the drive, though I later found it simpler to copy the tracks to a folder specifically for music to use with the car, and rename them manually there in my desired order.

Overall, despite being a bit of a PITA to set up, I much prefer using the CDs to having my phone connected for most music. There is really no safe place in my car to hold the (fairly large) phone where it isn't flopping about, and changing through playlists on a whim requires far less time and attention.

Given this day and age though, it surprises me that vehicle optical drives do not support DVD discs for audio files. For compressed audio, I wouldn't imagine being bumped around would affect playback quality appreciably, even if the DVD format is more sensitive to movement.
