My PayPal was hacked don’t feel safe with my money in it

RoyalGamer1

So my PayPal and eBay where hacked last month I guess and I just found out now. All the email and password where changed but when I got in my PayPal was negative 1.2k and my eBay has a shit ton of stuff sold on it that was high value since it’s been a month all the money was charge back alredy (I had no payment info on my PayPal other then my old bank account that doesn’t work anymore)

well i received money and that’s why I wanted to go to PayPal in the first place. I got all the chargers back changed that I could so my account is back positive with a little less then what I received as payment in it, but I don’t feel safe even with changed info but when I try to send money to a new PayPal I just made it won’t let me.  It’s been 24 hours and PayPal hasn’t responded

I feel your pain. Got my paypal hacked before too.

The best way is to set up a second security authentication with your phone. This way everytime someone tries to log in, they must get the code from your phone first before they can, making your leaked info useless regardless.

I would say wait for Paypal support. I had a similar "hack" issue a while back, and they refunded all the money stolen, and they were very sorry. They are amazing at this stuff.

Convert all your money into gold and lock them inside a vault. As long as the global prices of precious metal do not collapse, gold should safeguard you against inflation and being hacked. They won’t be as solvent as legal tenders though but who cares?

Most financial advisers say to keep around 5-10% of your wealth in precious metals, keeping it all as gold is just dumb and completely irrelevant to the Paypal situation

They are closed when I’m awake so I have to rely on email and they never reply in 24 hours like it says. It’s always like 3 days for me

Can you make arrangements to wake up for a bit during their normal business hours? I've dealt with them a few times in the past and I'm always able to get a much quicker resolution if I call. Their online communication isn't always the greatest.

Oh, first post! Heyoooo!

Your paypal wasn't "hacked", they just found your password, either because you were reusing it elsewhere or it was easily guessable. (Could've been a keylogger, but if so, then all your other passwords are at risk, including your new passwords)
You should consider using something like Keepass to store locally unique, lengthy passwords that would be impossible to guess even with a super computer, like "òÂwpÀ`fªæxqb¹MgÅ;úU¤m;t];A%|!`yoõËUz·FÙÝ W»àI", especially for things that have actual value to them (like your paypal account, steam, bank, etc...)

They got my PayPal and eBay and they both have different passwords and emails. They are just linked so maybe they got my eBay then PayPal? Idk

ive used lastpass in the past but just too much work and didn't work well, never had a issue in my whole time being on the Internet. if you can guess my password is just luck due to the random numbers in between and a mix of upper and lower case letters all thought it. its also 16 charters long. just diffrent words or phrases and they are usally made up shit I hear on tv like wubbalubbdubdub but id do like wuBB&a5lubB2!adUB29Dub or something like that  for the password

no other accounts of mine have even been attempted to been accessed and the last time I logged into paypal was over a good 3 months ago, at least this paypal account. this is my personal account and I use my "business" account most of the time for shopping and what not just so they don't see my name when I receive money they just see a "company" name thats just gibberish.

I am getting the feeling your being impatient here. Not to seem facetious or anything (I know its money) but proper steps done right have good results. PayPal will do you right just work with them as they are not going to skip around and make a mistake when it comes to correcting a money matter.

it needs to be 24 hours before I can. man it really does seem like no one reads and they skim and then add words they want when they go back to think about what I said to reply to it. and yes its not like its a small amount of money. at least not to most people. I sold a car to a family member and they paid via my phone number in paypal so it sent to the account I never use, I forgot phone payment was set up on the wrong account and I never fixed it.

I said I called and that was posted an hour ago, but 20 hours ago I said i'm not awake at their hour so it clearly has not been 24 hours. 24 hours will be tomorrow at like 5pm

My eBay and paypal were also compromised, however due to my enabling email notifications I was aware someone accessed my accounts within 10 minutes and notified eBay by phone at 11pm and within 1 minute they had restored my eBay account to my info (hacker had changed email and stuff so I couldn't change password for example).

My lesson learned, I used the same passwords for some accounts, foolishly. Because of this the hacker got into many accounts easily. Although I had used two-factor authentication on some apps before, I now have it setup on every account that allows it. Any purchase or saIe make, on anything, I get a notification pushed to my phone/email or both. I check my bank account almost daily to make sure purchased I didn't make were made.

How easy was your password? That probably a big factor here. You had no email notifications on any account? How did you allow someone to make $1200 in purchases or selling without any knowledge? If you have a payment method linked to something like eBay or paypal, then you should have notifications set up, always. Its unfortunate you were hacked but you need to take steps to protect yourself to prevent this. As for resolving the issue, emailing isn't the best way. Like I did, calling gets it solved quick.
