Soo i got a ps4 for a dirt cheap price from my friend who had it for 4~5years and it was working fine

I got it home fired it up worked for 30min before it went nuts.

Wouldn't start again but the power was going through

Suspected it was overheating . But I decided not to open it and send it or for inspection from Sony

1week passed and got the results, replace the motherboard for 17000¥ with out the reason why

It was too pricey for me (considering I got it for 1000¥)

soo i took matters into my hand got the ps4 back opened it up, took all the parts out,and damm the heat sync was filled with 5years of dust. Cleaned it up, put all the parts back and wala it was working fine.

Soo  even if they replaced the motherboard I think It wouldn't start up. Did Sony even do a proper inspection?

Or is this a business thing that they do. (And yes I live in jpn)

Probably a business thing.

I've heard stories of people having issues with fogged up windscreens in cars. The workshop blames the AC unit, demands a high price to fix it and then all they do is just put some water absorbing balls in the car and let them absorb all the excess water.

It's easy money. Blame something hard/expensive, and then fix an easy issue.

Not hard to do if the clients do not know any better.

Hold on, you got a PS4 for 1000 yen? Why are you even complaining? :D (unless you missed a 0).

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Reminds me of the time I went to a car shop to ask them how much it would cost to fix a rather small dent. The shop wanted $1,000 Canadian minimum to fix it.

If you know someone, or know someone who knows someone, or are a donor yourselfer, always send it in before attempting to do it yourself.

My friend knows people who do body work. I got the dent fixed and repainted for under $300.

Depending on the dent and paint color you got ripped off.

But your story is very similar to a roofing issue, and the guy who did it still made a tidy profit...

They prob ran it threw diagnostics, but like many things in life it prob gave back a generic error and since it's a PS4 they want you to buy the new one.

Depends on the process of replacing the board, since the board has everything on it it would be logical to at least add paste vs what was lost in the first place. So if you did do the new board option it is very likely it would of worked (they wouldn't send you back it if it didn't, instead the PS4 would become a car riddled with costs in a repair shop trying to find the issue...)

It's pretty common in the world of OEM repair facilities. Having technicians thoroughly diagnose a hardware issue costs way more than just replacing entire parts that are likely culprits for the failure. Compared to the cost of parts, labour costs is the killer. The same sort of stuff happens in the auto industry.

Also, you got the thing for 1000¥? That's like roughly 10 bucks USD (well 9.17 with today's exchange rate).

1000 Yen is just over $12 AUD, there's no way you got a PS4 for that little. 10,000 Yen i'd believe since that's around $120 AUD..

A mechanic shop and manufacture is different.

A mechanic is like a computer repair store. And most of the time any repair shop will try to scam you. Many people have made cases and tv shows and shit about it. It’s pretty widely known

Lol still got ripped off, just need a hammer and hit it from the back to undent it. Or sick suction cups and pull the dent out. Most of the time paint won’t chip unless it’s old and not well maintained.

Unless it was like a gash or something in the dent that would take more work if not a full replacement.
