Whats worth upgrading first CPU or GPU

So ive been running an FX-8350 and 2x GTX 960's for past 4 years and I can chose to upgrade either GPU or CPU and not both. I would like to upgrade my GPU to the new Nvidia cards when they come out but im scared of bottlenecks. But id like to upgrade my CPU but id have to buy a new motherboard and probably a cooler so id like to other peoples input, which upgrade first, GPU or CPU?

I would say CPU, but to upgrade CPU you will have to also change motherboard and memory, the 8350/8370 was top of the line for FX. Plus the GPU's are still ridiculous expensive. Grab a new Ryzen 2600/2700x and be happy for many years to come.

Ryzen 3800x 4.4ghz 1.294v all core Noctua NH-D15 x570 Aorus Elite 16gb G.Skill Flare X 3600mhz 15-15-15-30 1T

The ryzen 2600x is a really good value. Same with the i5 8400. I would personally get the ryzen for a longer socket support allowing for new cpus later on on the same motherboard. The r7 and the i7 are quite expensive but are really good cpus as well. I would upgrade cpu for sure because gpus are way too expensive right now do to cryptocurrency and you are in need of both a cpu and gpu upgrade while cpus are decently priced right now.

Ill be getting them as a bday present and i knew i was due for an upgrade but as seems as my PC was holding out i kept pushing back but ive broken, ill be looking into maybe an AMD CPU such as the AMD - Ryzen 7 1700 3GHz 8-Core Processor, if the 1700x is better ill push for that one

Make sure 16gb of 3000mhz or 3200mhz ram is your first priority, so if you can't afford the r7 with that, get an r5 2600

Try using the PSU Tier List!

How to reset the bios/clear the cmos

My current rig:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x

Ram: 1x16gb DDR4, 2x8gb DDR4

Storage: 1tb nvme ssd

GPU: gtx 3080

Monitor: 23.8" Dell S2417DG 144hz g-sync 1440p + 27" Acer S271HL 60 Hz 1080p

Keyboard: ducky one I | I SF

Mouse: gpro wireless | glorious model o2 wireless

Sound : beyerdynamic 1990 pro | Monoprice liquid spark (amp) + topping d10 (dac)

cpu/ram/mobo, should be about $500 if you get an r5, a good mobo and 16gb of 3200 mhz ram.

Just my 2 cents, but if you're using this for gaming, the 1700 or 1700x won't really provide much in the way of benefit over the 1600/1600x. Game developers don't often code for more than four cores. Six cores gives you a little leeway so that the operating system can run on the other two cores while the games monopolize the other four. 8 cores only really provides a benefit if you're doing content creation or something along those lines, or at least, that's the way I've understood it.

See im doing a course in game development so those 8 cores will help

I use a ryzen 5 1400 with 16gb of 2400mhz ram and it's fine', I'd say a better cpu is more important than better ram, even with ryzen.

Well op's budget fits it, but an x600+16gb of fast ram is worth it over an r7+8gb of fast ram in any case
