Why not use an external dock?

Is it possible to physically change(and upgrade) the GPU of a LAPTOP??

depends on the laptop.

some come with add in GPU's in the MXM formfactor, others come with the GPU soldered to the motherboard.

it really depends on your specific laptop.

Depends. The general answer is no but there are exceptions with gpus that are using a interface kinda like pcie 16x for desktops. The only issue is the gpus for the interface are super expensive to the point where it is almost never worth it.

Anything is possible with the right tools and resources. How easy it will be to have both and the skills is another thing.

I would say most laptops the GPU is a BGA chip soldered to the motherboard.

Some gaming or production model laptops have proprietary slots the GPU plugs into which would be easily replaceable or up-gradable but I haven't seen any of those GPUs available on the market.

Welcome to the LTT forum where 50% (or more) of us are legally adults but we still act like children because it's more fun.

all the things i can find about this is that it has a soldered GPU. so upgrading that is going to be pretty much impossible without desoldering the actual chip and getting a new one on there :/

nope, you'd need specialized equipment and a whole lot of luck to be able to pull a GPU swap on a soldered board off.

to be honest you'll probably kill the laptop trying.

I think I see where you're coming from there. So long as the comment is clear & concise in its intention then how you interpret it is a personal issue.

The last time Linus desoldered something he put a display 1950X in a portable oven and ruined the chip in the process. (mind you the chip wasn't functional to begin with but he could have done a better job)

it might work, but even Linus wouldn;t know how to do this. :P

you would need to go to someone like Louis Rossmann to get it done.

and their work is not cheap, and it is not guaranteed taht your motherboard's BIOS will work with the new GPU. so you might need a modded version of that too.

you would also need to source either a board with a working GPU chip or a stand alone working GPU chip from somewhere, i don't think they sell these to consumers.

so basically not worth the hassle. a new laptop might even be cheaper.
