ps3 in 2018

Should i get a ps3 in 2018 ?
I think there is no ps3 emulator around
Mostly 4 games that never come to pc or ps4 ; mg4 ,asura's wrath and many others .

PS3 emulation to me is a dead project at this point. Not even N64 emulation is perfect to my knowledge and the architecture the PS3 uses is ridiculously complicated. 

 

For controllers, you can pick up third party ones from Hori. I have one and it's pretty good. Wired though but the cord is long so not a big deal.

If you are going to buy one then don't buy the original fat model, dew to their high failure rate. Also, only go for it if you can find a fully working one with a controller and maybe some games for 80$ (USD) or less. Any more then that, and you'd be better off saving up for a ps4 instead.

If you find one at a great price point, yep.

Pretty good exclusives from that era.  Plus, doubles as a great media box.

If you really want to play those games, then yes, absolutely.

 

But Asura's wrath is also on 360.

And that was the better console at the time. The PS3 is kinda crappy...

 

And yes, I have a PS3 and a 360, i like them both. But tbh I like the 360 a bit more...

I'll throw my hat in the ring:

 

1. If you want to play PS3 Exclusives, then yes.

2. Do you want to play PS1 titles on a Modern TV without issues? then Yes.

3. Do want to play Console Exclusives that never made it to PC? then Maybe. (Here in the UK the 360 is cheaper by £10, at £60.)

 

Outside of the PS+ games, most of the PS3 titles I went out and Purchased where console exclusives*, with a few Late PS3 era Cross platforms, and those were cheap and where to cover a X games for the Y Price deal. (I also play PS4 online, so I have gained quite a PS+ titles on the PS3.)

The 360 is also the better, more performant console. So its possible that it runs better on the 360.

 

Also some exclusives come to PS4 in a remastered version like God of War 3, Uncharted 1-3, the last of us. So for those a PS4 makes more sense.

 

That only leaves PS3 Exclusives...

The RPCS3 emulator has made enormous strides the last year and has a few very good games playable at full speed on it, but it's still probably at least 3 years from being able to enjoyably play the majority of the PS3 library. But it has come a long ways from a couple of years ago when it looked like a project going nowhere.

 

If you want to buy a PS3, do it sooner rather than later, because Gamestop's selection of used PS3 games is rapidly drying up this last year and once they run out game prices will go way up (it's already starting). PS3 has some amazing exclusives, though a lot of the best have better PS4 ports. If you're into Japanese games like Yakuza, Metal Gear Solid, Ni No Kuni, Ninja Gaiden, Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, Ratchet & Clank, Tales of, etc it's a really cool system. If you just want to play Mass Effect, Bioshock, Assassins Creed, and other great multiplat series from last gen it's not going to be anywhere near as good as a budget PC with a halfway capable card (eg GTX 750 Ti level or better).

 

Also the PS3 controllers are now about $45 used and you can't buy them new unless you get Chinese knockoffs.

You don't need to.

DS4 works fine in many games.

 

 

The Interweb says that the Gyro things are not supported on DS4 @ PS3. But I don't know if they changed something in the last couple of firmwares and fixed that.

and the PS Button doesn't work on PS3 as well...

But otherwise it works well.

 

As for the games:
Look at the Playstation Store what's available there and make a list of games you want to play but are only available on disk.

Sadly there are a couple of great games like that. Nier or Heavenly Sword or others. BUt it also depends on the Region of course...

 

Some games make little to no sense on Disk - like Ni No Kuni, wich is really expensive (like 30bucks minimum), they are cheaper in the Store. 

Sadly you are a bit late, but until today/yesterday you could have gotten for example Tomb Raider (2013) for 1,49€ or Far Cry 4 for 7,99€ (Gold for like 12,99€).

Do you know if they discriminate like the incompetent people from CEMU??
Or does it run well on everything there is?

 

With openGL you have to do the thing for all manufacturers seperately, probably even for some different generations.
