Is there a name for these kind of SATA connectors?

williamcll

I have a sony VPCSA36GG laptop with a faulty SSD and I am looking to see if there's any replacement drives, however, the included drive is soldered to the cable that can be removed from the motherboard. I am unsure what the name of the connector this is supposed to be.

My (broken) internal SSD resembles this:

Any ideas?

They're custom made for that platform (console or dvr or whatever)

The sata data+power connectors you can buy, but the flexstrip and the other connector not so much.

I'll edit this message in a few minutes with more info

edit:

So here's the service manual :

vpcsa.pdf

Go to page 15 and 16 - you'll find on page 15 a paperclip if you double click that Adobe Acrobat will try to load an excel file that's embedded inside the pdf ... allow it.  It's a list of official spare parts from Sony.  (or just click attachment, added it here :  parts.xlsx )

If you look in the page you'll see the code for this part is 906 so in your excel file you can look up 906 and match it with code AP ( where VPCSA36GG belongs - see page 1 and 2 of the service manual)

So double check but if your model is VPCSA36GG then you should look in the SA36GG column then scroll down to 906 and you get the part number :

parts.png.01a483f3dfbc8263013ad2c372d9de9a.png

So you want  A-1816-283-E  or V030 FPC SSD 2CON X2  i guess, ideally ...  the ones with square icon should be "compatible" but not perfect or something like that) you can probably order it from Sony parts stores or from service that takes care of sony laptops (but they'll probably charge you some fee just to run your order through them)

Search ebay for those codes also ... maybe this works if the picture doesn't match, search for the other codes

I have to remove the drive along the cable together, it might be unsoldered but I believe it's glued to taped very tightly, will try later.

I've had many laptops with similar cable things but any of those haven't been soldered. Usually those are pretty tight but not glued or soldered

Just search your Laptop model on ebay with SATA on it. Most will be proprietary to the laptop mobo or manufacturer

See my Build here!

Intel 6700k -  Strix GTX 1080Ti - Corsair AX760 - Corsair Dominator 16GB 3000MHz - ASUS Maximus VIII Hero

Seagate Barracuda 1TB -  Samsung 120GB 840 - Samsung 840 EVO 250GB - Corsair H100i - Corsair Air 540 White -

Corsair AF120 - 2x Noctua NF-F12 - 3 x Noctua NF-S12

 Dell S2417DG - Dell UH2515H

Alright after a some fiddling I have only become more baffled at this drive, though I believe there is supposed be a cable that can let me plus a SATA3 drive in. IMG_20180409_210627575.thumb.jpg.eb1450aae83b2f3accc04edc77f17c41.jpgthe hidden connector is the same as the male connector to the right. IMG_20180409_200710690.thumb.jpg.8eb690ee97e6386aa71a1b7cdfc9c417.jpg

I'm looking for a SATA3 cable that can connect to the plug below the wifi card. IMG_20180409_200603516_LL.thumb.jpg.291137571073ac04e0095c89d265ff1c.jpg

This is two twin sided SSDs running on RAID 0 to make up 256GB, it's lifespan of 9 months total running time is pretty awful but that's 2012 era SSDs for you.

Additionally, HP uses these kind of connectors too, hopefully I can find one that ends with a SATA 3 connector

Alright, long story short, I traded my broken SSD for a cable with a SATA3 connector for 13 USD at the new capital pc mall on Hong Kong. Tabao does sell these cables too but they cost 10 USD so it was not worth the effort and risk.
