There is one that is refurbished for $199 on newegg. I also saw one a few weeks back for $199 with rocket league.

there's absolutely no reason to get a 750w unit with a gtx 1060. a cx450/m or coolermaster masterwatt would have been just as good and cheaper.

They're the only EVGA PSU in Tier 3, aka affordable but good PSU's.

It's not the wattage I'm thinking about, it's the build quality and less likely to fail factors. The BQ750W was the only EVGA in tier 3, thought I'd stick with EVGA because you chose EVGA originally.

there's no criteria that states tier 3 PSUs must be affordable, neither must he have an evga PSU in the first place.

Cheap yes. But looking at the power draw (276w) he'd need something a little more powerful if he wanted any headroom for future upgrades, just under 180w isn't much headroom at all. 750w is probably overkill but if EVGA is the brand he wishes to go with and the PSU I recommended is in tier 3 it's less likely to fail and that could potentially carry over to a more powerful system in the future.

No. im sorry, but to suggest a 750 watt unit for a 1060 is kind of stupid.

Components going forward have been generationally dropping power usage/heat output.

Well out of my curiosity what would you suggest if you were to stay with the brand he originally chose without it being too expensive? I always think of upgrades to parts that will draw a hell of alot more power, generationally there's also power hogging parts that people might upgrade to too.

What don't you understand? He asked for a suggestion for a PSU, not an EVGA PSU. He's on a $650 budget, if you suggest an expensive PSU, that he DOES NOT need, he has less to spend on components that make a difference in day-day use.

@PurplDrank Do you need to have an EVGA PSU? Are you planning on running an i9 7980XE with dual titan v's in 6 months? If so, get a bigger PSU, and if not as @Herman Mcpootis and I have said, the 450 watt is more than enough.

Load Power Consumption - Crysis 3

280w with a strix 1060, and that's with an overclocked 4960x, not a ryzen 1400 that eats up much less power. a good 450w unit will very happily provide that wattage 24/7. a good 450w unit will be enough for even a 1080ti, and only lacking if he went with a vega 56/64 in the future, which is often way overpriced and out of stock anyways.

No, what don't YOU understand? I assumed he'd want to stay with the same brand since it could be down to personal preference.

You assumed that. Completely. You could've asked about it instead. Or, at the very least, you could've recommended a better EVGA PSU

I did recommend a better EVGA PSU, just everyone got touchy because the wattage was 750w which is overkill, but its not like it'll harm the system.

Use a BQ750W if you're going with EVGA.

That's a really bad recommendation for that system.

Because its rather expensive, nothing he needs and he wastes mones for some useless watts he can't even use.

Here some Prices:

78€ for your 750W BQ

78€ for a 550W Cougar GX-F

70€ Bitfenix Formula, 550W

80€ Bitfenix Whisper M, 450W

85€ be quiet Straight Power 11

Those are all better, higher quality units.

Because more Watts don't offer you much benefits, it causes more damage in case something goes wrong, the fan gets louder due to the need for the heat at full load to be dissipated...

Any suggestions?

the 4 above

For your system you can even save a buck or two and go for the 450W models, if available.

You don't even need 550W.

And there is no benefit to a higher wattage unit when you do not need the Wattage - wich you don't!
We are talking about something around 200W for your system.

Oh and don't get a card with less than 4GiB of VRAM, that's the bare minimum for modern games.

And it doesn't even make you that happy (well, except if we are talking about HBCC, then it doesn't matter much)...

So get something around 8GiB of VRAM. Because of consoles and high quality textures.

I really need to go up that much? i thought a 600 w would be sufficient enough

No, even a good 400W is plenty for your system.

No need for even a 600W.

You can use a PSU at 100% load without problems for an extended period because that is what the label on the PSU says!

Well, of a decent one at least!

And some even say that:

DSC_4247Andere.th.jpg

100% at 24/7 operation.

Oh and good PSU are specified for high ambient temperatures like 40-50°C.

The cheaper ones might be for up to 35°C, some even just 25°C ambient temperature.

The cheaper, the more likely we are talking about 25°C...

Yeah but you're paying extra for something that's useless for OP, not to mention the BQ series is mediocre at best.
