That was the same way I was feeling.

So my Atari 800 served as my terminal for logging on to the Internet  in the 1980s, and I wrote my own terminal emulator that gave me an 80 column screen on the 320-pixels-wide monitor (which meant my own hand-designed 4-pixel wide characters).  But if you wanted to plug serial or parallel devices into the Atari computers you needed an Atari 850 interface.

It looked like this:

Welp, I now have a smol 1999 PC. Albeit with only the ODD not being year perfect (2004 Liteon) or the Sound card, FDD, NIC being early to mid 90's.

Any suggestions on a serial mouse with scroll wheel that will work with Windows 11? My Microsoft Serial Mouse 2.0 works fine, but I find that most things jump around too much when using page up and page down or the arrow keys. Has anyone tried a Microsoft Intellimouse over serial on Windows 11? I'm trying to keep my main computer as retro as possible.

The Microsoft Intellimouse came in a serial flavour.  I'll warn you though they're probably rare as rocking horse poo these days.  Do you have a PS/2 connector on your motherboard?  The PS/2 flavour is much more plentiful.  Another option if it's a modernish sort of motherboard is to use something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/TanQY-Adapter-Keyboard-Interface-Support/dp/B07FLD3T8T/ref=asc_df_B07FLD3T8T/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309981988222&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15572070358208111777&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007141&hvtargid=pla-632476719489&th=1

That will make any USB socket take a PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse

I have a Microsoft for Tiny Computers branded intellimouse.  A PS/2 one with a scroll wheel I could sell you if you like the last idea

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

I have a beige erogonomic PS/2 keyboard with a PS/2 integrated trackpad that is taking up the two PS/2 ports. My mother board has two PS/2 ports and one serial header.

However, the keyboard has a place to add another mouse. I'd have to solder a PS/2 header or port of some sort to it though, but that wouldn't be hard. Maybe I'll go that route.

I do have a PS/2 to USB adapter. But I don't know. I kind of like keeping things plugged into their original ports.

serial mice support was removed after XP.

also, a serial mouse with a scroll wheel...  you'll have more success in finding a virgin in a whore house.

I plugged in my serial mouse into this 12th gen Intel, core i5 desktop and Windows downloaded the drivers and it has worked perfectly fine ever since. That's all I know.

I do have a beige (or white I guess) USB mouse with scroll wheel from Microsoft, but the buttons don't work very well. This serial mouse with ball bottom works better, except no scroll wheel.

With how my P45 boards aged (P5Q Turbo and P5Q Deluxe), mainly in regard to stability with dual channel memory, then later with 1066MHz memory as well as 1600MHz FSB CPU (read - shouldn't have tried daily driving Xeons at that) - definitely take care with how you use it. Chipset can overclock like a champ, but really doesn't hold up well under proper use even at stock voltages.
