Side story, when I was 14ish a school buddy's parents had a garage/gas station and his mum was doing the admin/bookkeeping, but she would also spend pretty much half of every day playing Solitaire. The office was in the reception area behind the counter which you could see from the massive front window, and most nights you could walk in front of the garage at 10pm and see a completely dark place except for the glow of one CRT monitor, behind which she was... playing solitaire.

I think those are also the same size as a CD, no?

They aren't, they're a lot smaller. a Mini CD is about the size of a floppy "platter" (not sure what else to call it) and the floppy is about 85% the size of one of these.

I recall there being larger magnetic media, possibly hard disk based, though.

HDD platter is 3.5"  that's where the name comes from.  CD/DVD/Bluray are 4.75"

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

I was thinking of the 5.25 HDD platters lol. Oops!

Happened to me on a 3 foot cable from my Power Mac.

I don't know why Apple felt the need to use a 3 foot cable, but hey, I have one now (couldn't use it as I couldn't figure out how to re route the cable lol)

Since I no longer have my first modern case, I've had to remove the (repaired) Socket A board that's been living in this one for around 20 years. The Duron 1000 that was in it would also be far happier in the newer board with the DDR.

Dug out my 92 Chinon (2000's FDD are shit quality) and solved the rattle it had. Also found my old 5.25" brackets. Back to RAID 0 with these:

Edit: Just FYI, Vista runs and installs so much better on the array than the ATA IV. The drives peak at over 60MB/sec each while the ATA IV...doesn't get much over 40MB/sec. Still going to persist with it anyway. Windows Me and Vista only this time around. And maybe Linux.

I need to find a DVD drive built like this. No belt, no worries. These Lite-on drives should outlive most retro ODD (this is my 52x drive with the fromt swapped) btw-48x has a dead motor and it has yellowed with the case.20220514_153018.thumb.jpg.ea513b779c039034961d5cdc098a9b3e.jpg

Hi guys..dad was holding 2 retro PCs (ex mine) inhis room.

Gosh I am so bored today, decided to clean from dust, and turn it ON.

Believe it or not this rig still works.

As far as I can remember this is my 4th rig in my life.

Gosh does it block (unresponsive) with simple 2 tabs of Chrome. 😕

I am curious about Cinebench R15 score or maybe Unigine Heaven.

Let me try at least run 1080p youtube 😄   hope without freezing..

Gosh back then in 2008 everything runed smoothly.

Please do not take offence for my apparent confusion or rudeness,it's not intent me to be like that,it's just my BPD,be nice to me,and I'll return twice better,be rude and usually I get easly pissed of...I'll try to help anyone here,as long as it's something I dealt with, and even if you think I'm rude or not polite, forgive me,  it's not me it's my BPD.

Thanks for understanding.

That's why I used to only buy LiteOn, they were a lot of the OEM drives too. SOLID units but sometimes suffer from sticking trays and need a smack.

I even have older rig back in 2002,it's still in Dads room.
I believe it is AMD Athlon with 2 cores.

This one is (pic below).

Can it run Crysis? 😄

In a garage there is Pentium 3 but I'm lazy to bring it here and clean it...don't know if it still works, should do.

...just tried, bringing 1080p YT vid to this oldie is a torture...it does run 720p but painfully slow.

I can not believe about this.

I mean even all my cellphones run 1080 without issues.

it'll be the 2GB of system ram doing that to youtube.  What browser are you using?  You might have better luck with opera lite or something along those lines

Damn...while I was passing by, with the leg touched the case of this PC and it switched off.

Hmmm...wonder what that could be...
