I've been organizing and doing inventory. The amount of parts I have is a bit embarrassing at this point, I've been stockpiling.

I'm barely even a fraction of that 😄

At the very least, I need to bring more backup hardware into my house. I used to keep an RX 470 4GB on standby in case my 1070 crapped the bed, but I recently gave that to a relative because they needed a better GPU.

Right now I think the coolest things I own would still be my Athlon MPs and my PowerMac G5 CPUs.

Technically I have a full PowerMac G5, but I haven't been bothered to source a new PSU to find out what else needs to be replaced. The case is also bent and wonky.

Fun fact:
XP-M's are MP enabled by default so they can be used that way as is.

I might be mad. But it does have more surface area within the fan's airflow, it'll be a perfect swap and is similar if not identical to some heatsinks used on the FX series without fans. Plus it'll make this generic 128bit 4.2GB/sec FX 5500 look like an MSI/Gainward card - perfect for the KT6V:

Edit: What are the odds. Gainward FX 5500:

Just picked up this unicorn power mac g4 for cheap. It's got 1gb of total ram, at two different speeds and three different capacities because why not. It also has some sort of aftermarket "owc" CPU upgrade making this have a 1 GHz G4 processor instead of the normal 400MHz-ish it should have. It's quite unique and a ton of fun since the previous owner had separate drives with Mac OS 9.2.2 and 10.3. It's also a bit quirky; the boot chime only functions when Mac os 9.2.2 is selected as the boot drive. When 10.3 is selected the monitor looses signal until it starts logging in about 50 seconds later which then the desktop appears. I can't figure that one out along with why the CD drive opens by itself during the boot process of both OS 9.2.2 and 10.3???

It also looks to have an 8 pin mini DIN port instead of a phone jack?

This time Sunday, these boards should hopefully be fully recaped. Excluding some 22uf 10V and 1000uf 10v non low esr caps. Will of course show the after photos.

Might not have enough caps - even after another "I'll take them all" at a local Jaycar.

However they say its getting difficult get caps...so easy to obtain low ESR won't last.

So I posted a picture of an old apple II+ that I picked up a while back from my parents house and posted a picture of it a page or two ago.  Got brave and plugged it in for the first time tonight.  Dang if the dumb thing still works.  had to look up some real basic commands to see if the processor was still functioning and amazing enough it still is.  Not sure what I am going to do with it now but it was cool to see it light up for the first time in decades.  Last time I can remember having it plugged in was probably the mid 1990's.

Makes me glad I had stocked up on 6.3v 3300uf caps sometime ago, had grabbed a nice big bag of them (200) for about $20 plus shipping when I found them.
I've used a few along the way as you may have figured.

I thought that I'd stocked up enough of the 1500uf caps when I was ordering them (the only ones that I could get were either questionable or counterfeit nichicon) - turns out next to 1000uf 10V they are the most common on my boards - and the VP6 needs a lot as being in Australia it wasn't repaired under the class action lawsuit Abit lost.

Will probably end up just ordering loads of Rubycon caps from Element14 once I use these up as some values are cheaper, and I could actually go full polymer on my best boards (though expensive when the only board I bought was the VP6 price is never an issue).

What your looking at is an

AMD athon 64 (AMD's second 64 bit cpu, so old, we needed to use 32 bit windows 10.

GeForce 7800GT

I have no idea how much ram becuse it dident say anywhere, and I forgot what windows said

It also came with a sick blue case with some like door that fliped open to revel leds with some 3.5"" bays.

That would have to be because of the minimum amount of RAM required by Win 10 64 bit, which it most likely lacks and it's really not the system's "Fault".
If it has a hardware problem that's one thing but I doubt even one known to be in good working order like yours is capable because of the RAM requirement.

Looks to be a Socket 939 setup by the board make and model so that could be the reason why it can't run it, based on the limitation of how much RAM is in each DDR stick you'd have in it.
If it's an Athlon 64 chip, it's capable of 64 bit computing and the name "Athlon 64" indicates it as such. Since it's a 939, it's gonna be slow as in SLOW compared to others but at least it's capable of doing it.

In truth every chip made by AMD from Socket 754 onward is capable of 64 bit computing, Socket 939 is definitley a platform that's capable of it but again, it depends on how much RAM you have in the system.

Commonly the limit in dual channel for DDR is 2GB's but the board should be able to handle up to 4GB's with all 4 RAM slots populated.
I believe there are some sets that's 2GB's per stick for DDR but that tends to be ECC RAM with DDR, you'd have to dig around and see if you run across some of that and then your board has to be capable of ECC operation, which that board make and model should be. I know an A8N32 SLI Deluxe is capable because I have one and it's an option in the BIOS under your memory configuration options.

You can find out how much RAM you have by using CPU-Z to check that and the POST screen itself should say as well during bootup.

I love and miss Rockbox, I wish I had a device capable of running it still. My old Toshiba Gigabeat sadly died, hard drive failed and the replacement drive smoked the board or something. I like my Fiio X1 but I'm not a huge fan of the OS on it compared to the bare bones 'it works' feel of RockBox, I liked the little rough around the edges it always had.

I stopped using this setup in my film developing lab in 2014.Too bad the photo doesn't show the plotter and disk drives for the PET. But it's all still there and works. That's an X-Rite densitometer next to the PET and that still gets used every day.

Hey all!

Paul from the UK. I'm a bit of a retro mobile phone nerd and wanted to use my first post to show you my obsession.

All these phones have sentimental value to me

And I have daily driven them all. Albeit many years ago.

I'm 39 now and still keep collecting these. Hope you find something here that takes you back!

As you can see I currently have more phones than I do space to display them. But it still doesn't stop me.
