Nvidia's had functional volta silicon for nearly a year now. Turing is probs volta with the tensor cores cut out. Nothing was stopping nvidia from accelerating the pace. And it's not a node problem either. They release the gv100 months ago, and it's easily the biggest IC ever made

I would imagine the NAND shortage is not making sourcing Vram easy but NVIDIA has so much money

I was referencing current gen but yeah they could be waiting to until their yields are acceptable. The problem is if mining isnt banned on these cards, the GPU market will never normalize again.

The Titan V hasn't shown any IPC improvements for Gaming, though a lot in the ML and HPC spaces.  The "12nm" process is a refined 16nm process that Pascal is on. It's not offering a huge area shrink, so the replacement 1080 would have to be bigger than the current 1080 to see any sizable improvement. Nvidia needs an improved uArch & new memory to make the upgrades viable for the Gaming space.

Mining cards "we" are hoping for.  I am not hoping for one, I also KNOW as it has happened before neither do miners.  Miners EXPECT to resell their cards to actually make a profit, and only gaming GPUs hold resell value.  Therefor, mining cards (unless sold for 50US) will not solve ANY pricing issues.

So are we going to see a glut of mining GPUs on ebay at some point? Also, having been used 24/7 days, weeks, months, would they not be 'knackered' so to speak?

Not knackered, just as with all memory, it can only do so many writes, so it will be close to dying (they don't show signs of wear, they will just literally stop working one day).  Having said that, it is not like they are going to be honest in telling you it was used for mining, so you'll be taking a gamble.

Ebay selling history will provide some clues. Fuck! they really are killing PC gaming. I gave my nephew $1k to build his own rig, but the shortage in GPUs means he can't build what he wants.

Whether you're for mining or not, but who is to blame then? Miners would rather blame AIB's for not making more when the AIB's are paying more for RAM per card and making little profit margin as it is, and have no reason to make more when the market is messed up to the point that no one but miners that order them in bulk can buy anything.
