GTX 1060 with 120 Hz or GTX 1070 with 60 Hz

So I'll be buying a laptop for Uni and I set my mind on the Alienware 15 because it has all I need and it looks awesome.

Of course I'll be doing some gaming on it but as most people I have a budget restriction so I was wondering what you guys would do:

- GTX 1060 with a 120 Hz panel: it would be my first time ever gaming on a 120 Hz panel, never seen one before and from what I've heard it's really cool to game on

- GTX 1070 with a 60 Hz panel: I think it would be more futureproof for me as I need to use this laptop for 5 years+ and I want to be able to game a decent amount on it. Not the most graphically demanding games at ultra settings but games like rocket league at high settings with 60fps+

Curious to hear what you guys think

Since your primary focus won't be gaming (gaming in uni is frowned upon ;) ) , I'd honestly just go for the faster GPU as it'll keep you happy for longer. The 120Hz panel is great and all, but if it's not Gsync, the 1060 will start struggling to really make good use of it in a few years.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

Even without GSync the 1060 will struggle to keep some games over 90fps at 1080p high details xD

@UltimateChaosthr I'd go with the 1070.

1060 because it seems like you arent playing demanding games. These fast-paced games love high refresh rate monitors so much, playing them with a 60Hz panel is nearly a sin.

Expect medium settings in more demanding games 5+ years later.

The 1070 is the better option if you need it to last 5 years. I can vouch that it probably will last that long. I mean, I'm still managing the same settings in most games today with my 960M and it's two years past the purchase date, not to mention the original card (750 Ti) was released back as far as 2013! So yeah, if a budget-range GPU can hold up 5 years later, a GTX 1070 can easily do the same.

1060 cuz I play less demanding games like csgo

But in the long run 1070 will be better but still I'd get the 1060

Really appreciate everyone's opinion here, it's helping me out a LOT

I think I'm gonna go with the opinion of the majority, that is a 1070 because as mentioned before, I really  need to use this laptop 5+ years so I think that'll be the better option.

@Jurrunio is right, rocket league really isn't that demanding and it would benefit a lot from the high refresh rate but I don't really want to be limited in the future

thanks a lot everyone :)
