What is the best graphics card i can get with my cpu

AalexX203

Hi guys!

Okay. I have been wanting to upgrade my pc for a while now but have not gotten around to it yet.

These are my current specs:

AMD FX6300

Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P

2x R9 270x  Corsair RM1000 psu

32gb Hypex Fury (4x 8gb) DDR3

2 x Seagate Barracuda 1tb

500gb Samsung evo ssd

BitFenix Comrade (ATX)

I would like to know what GPU i could buy that would cause little bottleneck with this build. I am trying to avoid getting another PC anytime soon but I also don't really want to buy a GPU now to replace it with a new PC one year from now.

I would like your honest opinion.

Should I get a new GPU and maybe a new CPU?

Do I get a new PC next year and keep with what I have got for now?

Do I get a new CPU, GPU and other components?

If you have any ideas what components I should get please let me know. I would rather wait a year with what i have if i am going to replace the whole build anyway. Feel free to ask me any questions or to let me know if you don't understand anything.

Thanks for your help guys!

-Alex.

What do you do with the pc? If its gaming i would really recommend getting a new cpu to avoid bottlenecks with any modern gpu you may pick

Im not sure what this signature thing is but it could use some RG

I was thinking a new CPU and yes it is a gaming computer. The only issue is i would rather not get a new mobo. If i was moving to intel would it not be better to get a new pc? If not what will i need to upgrade to move over?

Find a game you like playing, note the min/avg framerates you get on your current setup. Ask if anyone else has a dual 270x but a newer CPU and see what the difference in framerate is. Ask the same question of someone that has a similar CPU but a better GPU... that should give you some ideas of what would give you a better experience.

The graphics cards are weaker than the CPU in gaming performance since multi GPU scaling (Crossfire and SLI) on new games are getting worse. However getting a new card (I assume you want one that's good enough to be reused) is expensive and difficult because lately the card supply is just all gone. Used 900 series graphics cards should be the better way out, like the 980 and 980ti. They will be bottlenecked by the FX 6300, but since that's going away soon it doesnt matter.

If you dont want a used card and decided to wait for supply, or heck, even next generation of cards released later this year (and miners dont empty the stocks), a new CPU is what you should go for. AM3 platform doesnt have any options that are better at games, so a new mobo and switch to another platform is the only way out. There are still 2 options ahead. Going new, which means AMD's Ryzen or Intel's 8th gen, or used, in which you can get Haswell (4th gen).

Ryzen is cheaper and will get new CPUs from future generations, but gaming performance isnt as good as 8th gen (still much better than your FX).

8th gen is better at games, but rumours say that 9th gen wont support 8th gen motherboards so limited upgrade path.

These two will need new DDR4 RAM as well, which sucks since that isnt cheap either.

4th gen is still very good at games and can use DDR3 RAM you already have. However, it is only available as used parts. In the future games will start to use more than 4 cores, like 6 or even 8, but 4th gen tops at 4 cores (X platform, i.e. The rich man's platform isnt included as that is expensive.)

Thanks for the information pal! What would the difference in gaming performance be between the 8th gen and Ryzen?

Check the CPU and GPU usage in games first. Look for individual core usage when it comes to CPU. I use MSI Afterburner's on screen display function which needs the bundled RivaTunerStatisticServer (RTSS) to work. There should be guide in Youtube on how to enable it.

You need top graphics cards like the GTX 1080 to tell a difference. With a 1080Ti it's between 10%-15%, but with a 1080 it's within 5%. Of course it varies from game to game, those that heavily use the CPU will see larger performance difference, and vice versa.

Oh and quote people, so they receive a notification and come back to reply

Also, if I was going for an older card, would it be worth it? I want to keep these part for as long as possible and don't want to have to replace them. I am thinking about changing to a newer cpu anyway. The only sad thing is that it requires DDR4 :( . What do you think i should do first, the GPU and then the rest of the components later on down the line? Or do you think i should do it all at once? I would rather go for a newer GPU if it will last longer but how will this work in my current system?

Depends on the actual price you can find them for.

Patient / Can bear with the current performance --> CPU, mobo and RAM (if necessary).

Otherwise --> GPU

Ryzen refresh will be coming in April, while cheaper mobo for 8th gen will come also at a later (but unknown) date. If the current system is bearable or you need to save more money, then wait. I wouldnt consider buying a new graphics card now for sure.

It will be limited by the CPU at its current state, but it will be able to use all its power once the CPU and such get upgraded.

The performance is fine it's just at 30 fps medium to high. It is not a problem for me to game I just want to get a better experience. I think my best bet will be to wait and consider all of this around April time.

I can't thank you enough for your help man! You have put things into a better perspective.

Well if you want to re-use... 80% of your existing parts, you CAN go for a 4th/5th generation Intel CPU.

Something like a i5-4690K, i7-4790K, i7-5775C, etc.

You can re-use your DDR3 RAM.

People should be letting those go, and jumping over to the 8th generation chips.

But the drawback is...you would still be on a old , "End of Life" platform.

"Mainstream" 4th-generation stopped with socket LGA 1150, with the Z97 chipset, with the i7-4790K / i7-4770K / i7-5775C being the top-tier chips available.
