I7 8700k with Cryorig C7

As the title says, will the C7 be enough to cool it?

I currently have the C7 with my I5 3570k without any problems.

The fan is rated for a 100 tdp CPU.

The i7 8700k Is 95 tdp.

Gaming and everyday use.

No plan to OC right now (maybe in years when I feel I need the extra power).

I highly doubt it. If it doesn't throttle, it will at the very least run very hot.

Maybe if you get a good chip you can undervolt..

At stock yes even thought i am sure it wont be good enough compared to entry level cooler like 212 evo or h7 or pure rock.

And it will be LOUD.

have you noticed the stock base clock is really low?

guess why, thats the frequency where the cpu has the tdp measured , and because most boards will automatically set your cpu's boost to all cores, that cpu will need a much better cooler than those 95w intel claims

Jim's right though, 95W is nowhere near the actual usage at the boost frequencies.

It's a high performance chip, don't cheap-out on the cooling... Don't be an idiot. Get an AIO or something, or something like a Thermaltake Frio Extreme Silent 14, Scythe Mugen 5 PCGH Edition or Noctua NH-U14S/ D15.

The H7 from cryorig is the best budget cooler u can get.

Dont get a low profile cooler if u want a good performance.

It might do if you downvolt. But I'm with you getting H7 or maybe Pure Rock.

It's barely enough and not recommended but you might get a cpu that undervolts well. You could always see how it performs before deciding on whether or not to replace it.

Get the i7 8700 locked instead and there you go, problem solved and you still save money and ends up with the identical same performance of the i7 8700k at stock and overclocking it would give you so little extra performance don't really think this would give you any "extra-life" out of it.

The C7 Will handle the 8700 at full load?

The i7 8700 is identical in performance to the stock i7 8700k, however it has only 65W of TDP opposed to the i7 8700k 95w, this means the locked one is much more cool CPU by default... since it is locked they can make it as efficient as possible.

I will follow your advice and buy the i7 8700. Hope the C7 can handle it.

As has been said, for a high performance chip you need a high performance cooler.

The non-K version still has innate turbo boost, and after what @cj09beira said about the TDP being rated at the lowest speed (3.2GHz in the case of the 8700 non-K), you might still notice higher-than-desired temps when it boosts up to 4.6GHz. The C7 should be enough for normal loads, but if you start taxing your CPU it'll get warm.

Will be for games. I don't think any game will push it to 100%
