So guys heres the deal. Im building my third PC and i havent decided if i want one of the newer AMD cards or if i should go Nvidia. I know the perks im just kind of an AMD fanboy and really want one of the vega line of cards. The market however is pretty much out of high end and even reasonably priced mid range cards that perform. Really just convince me to go Nvidia.

just kidding, no but with all the Red vs Green stuff aside,

would you mind telling us a bit more about what your budget is and what the rest of your system is? what resolution do you want to game at? Those are all important points that need answers.

How about before making this so simplistic as brand vs brand, we don't talk specifically model vs model? maybe if you tell more of actual meaningful information like what you're planning to do with the card, what you can afford and so on we could actually do something here.

Since we're talking in the now yes I would agree Nvidia would be the better choice, but you should keep an eye on Navi as that's where things will get interesting for AMD.

What's your budget? What games are you playing? What resolution? Interested in mining in the future? If so, what currency? What specific model of power supply do you have, and how's the ventilation in your case? What are the rest of the components in your PC? Do you own/want to own a FreeSync or G-Sync monitor? Do you want to run multiple GPUs in the future? Are you looking to buy new, or do you want the best deal you can get on a beefy used card?

Answer all of those questions, then we'll start talking about specific cards that make sense.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Ryzen 5 1600X

32GB Corsair Vengence 3000MHz

MSI B350 Tomahawk

Meant for gaming, gonna overclock, liquid cool, SSD or a high cap M.2, you know the works. Case is a corsair Air 540. Ill pick the PSU later

You only need 16GB BTW, you won't be able to possibly utilize it with that CPU. M.2 not needed, and if you want to overclock get a different motherboard.

I ran a stable overclock on a FX 8320 of 4.2GHz on a $40 board

The turbo of that chip is only 4.2 Ghz.

If you really want to do a higher overclock you will need a board with better VRMs, especially with Ryzen.

Anyway i just need a push over to the green side. Honestly if AMD cant produce enough cards they severely dont understand their customer base. Just state me some facts about what the 1080s can do. Ill be playing my games at 1080p im not interested in 4K whatsoever just 1080p with plenty of overhead to keep framesrates stable at 60fps. More stable than what my 380 could do. Id like to get back to making some youtube videos and editing arma 3 maps,

Price isnt really a problem. $4000 a month. Lots of overtime

And how much of your monthly income do you want to devote to a computer?

I'll make this as easy as you're making it: dual Titan V cards in SLI. Does the Titan V support SLI? I'd imagine so, so there you go. 1.5 months worth of income on your new graphics cards, but you can totally handle Crysis.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Well, if all you need is someone to convince you not to go Vega, that's easy.

HAHAHAHAHA, look at all the fools who went team red and their crappy vega cards that don't perform and melts the solder that came with it.

HAHHAHAA, you made the worst purchase of the year and should feel like you got ripped off.

HAHAHHAHA, you can't even find one because none of the stores carry it and the online sellers are charging double the calling price.

HAHHAHA, just for buying team red.

Does that help?

With that budget go for a gtx1080ti, you will have lots of headroom. Dont bother sli as its not worth it. And before any "bottlenecking" posts occur, you will maintain 60fps no doubt for years to come, whit the option to upgrade to a zen+/zen2 cpu on the same platform in the future

Nice looking build :) hope you overclock the sh*t out of that r9 :)

Ps: how come you went with an msi board?

Well I originally bought the msi b350 tomahawk but ibwanted the better overclockability that the 370 offered. Um so far i boosted the clock 130mhz faster on the r9 might push it some more. As of now it plays alien isolation at 1080p with ultra setting with 2x super sampling at 90-100 fps. And the processor i overclocked to 3.9 Ghz on all cores and im thinking about pushing it further. I mean i do have a corsair h150i cooling the damn thing lol
