Nice, thanks for the replies again guys. I have been chugging through this and that resources trying to learn more and get some stuff set up, so haven't been on for approx 24 hours or more, which is rare for me

 

I have now changed over to flypool, at the moment seems about the same if I'm being honest, using EKWB miner. I have now figured out and configured being able to remotely view and/or restart my miner etc using ethcontrol, tested it by purposely crashing my GPU a few times, and it starts up again fine and starts/loads up afterburner every time to a more moderate OC, this is in case I have been fine tuning the OC any time and go off somewhere. At least then I know it will start right back up again... and is set to start with windows too, so if I have complete meltdown and reboot, at least it should keep going with the milder OC.

I settled on ~100W in the end for the mild OC, @84% power limit/200 clock/878 memory, this gives me around ~312-326 and 3.12-3.3 sol/W (because of it sometimes being 98W etc fluctuating). I will keep trying to fine tune it better, but for now that is OK I think.

I did make one BIG FUBAR mistake, and yes I take full responsibility for not reading EVERYTHING, but when I joined flypool, went into settings and set payout to 0.001, didn't notice the fineprint saying that they charge a Tx fee.. wasn't until I got a few payouts that should have been 0.001 Zec, that were 0.00082 Zec each, that I was like WTF? and tried to find out why.... and then finally noticed.

I am a bit angry, after all it says on their homepage "LOW 1% FEES" with no *asterisk defining that it may be lower or have other fees involved if choosing a lower payout... anyway, no worries, glad I noticed when I did and changed the payout limit again, if not I would have been paying approx 20% all-in for fees (dev/pool/tx). So if reading this and new to mining be warned and check everything, lol

 

In the end not that big of a deal when running one GPU for testing, but if this had been my fully put together rig getting somewhere around 2200 Sol/s I would've been mad AF, mostly at myself for not reading the tiny print.

 

I will keep trying to learn other stuff, and if I can't get hold of more 1060s or the cards price go through the roof again, then I will move to cards I CAN get, either as a mixed GPU rig, or just get another cheap board/cpu to use. For ease of use though, would prefer to keep it nvidia cards. Next rig (if I get that far) will be a toss up to see what nvidia/amd bring to the table... or I may buy used cards, who knows?  for right now though, I have to finish filling this rig with cards... weird thing It was actually EASIER to egt cards over xmas than it is now, at least the ones I want anyway. I may have to mix some brands of cards maybe.

 

Anyway, have most things figured out now I think... I will still make mistakes most likely, am human after all. Thank you to everyone for the help/advice for this, I really appreciate it.

Glad you got that settled out. Yeah I fell for their gimmick of the 0.001 payout as well but I just changed it back to 0.01 anyway because nanopool has theirs set to 0.01 as well. Both nanopool and flypool may look like the same hashrate but the stealing comes in when it pays out the shares.

I could do that, but as I have been playing with settings and stuff the hashrates aren't showing true yet. It's actually quite funny, as in the monitoring/mining program it currently shows my rate as say 319 sol/s, on the website it showed 186 effective and 298 as average effective, which is bullshit... I haven't seen the miner go below around 311 and mostly sits around 315/317 with occassional spikes up to mid 320s, and this is only because I lowered it again, it was a bit unstable in the mid 330s. You're welcome to look, but just saying I don't think it will help you at the moment as it's not displaying accurately. From what I can gather in my short time as a miner, is that you're better off with a monitoring program to keep an eye on the hashrates than the "reporting" on the pool site, it was the same on nanopool, although not as bad for the lows. I have only had 2 payouts BTW, both when it was set to 0.001 when I got shafted on the Tx fee.

If it'll help I can gladly post a transcript of my console output?  I think that'll be more helpful at the moment than anything it's showing in flypool.

It's the same for me as well. My miner will usually hover around 450 sols to 460 sols but flypool reports higher or lower. The average hashrate is usually reported around 450 sols tho. It might be to do with your adjustments because my hashrates stabilized after mining for about 24 hours on flypool. It will initally read a pretty low hashrate then start climbing.

They calculate hash rate based off of shares submitted, that's why it takes a day or more to average out.

Just a minor update.

 

Have now got another 1060 also, and have moved them into what is to become my mining rig full time, for now they are on a case corsair air 540 that I had laying around, with the side panel off as this helps a bit with cooling.

Very simple to move my config over, literally saved my folders onto USB/network, installed windows and drivers needed and copied them over. Then re-did the OC on afterburner to check all was OK, made a minor adjustment or 2 and done....

one funny thing though, I have issues with MY memory and focus (disablilty related), anyway, so was doing this stuff and thought I'd done everything, everything running fine, and I go to do some other stuff, check my monitoring app and it's stopped. Go to check the PC and it's not on even, at this point I'm like WTF??  I'm using my brothers PSU until tomorrow and I;m thinking it's too much for it, and so on so checking stuff, can't find the problem. So start it again... an hour later check back and it's off again. So check logs etc, and can't see anything that points to a cause, and decide to check the power settings, even though I know I changed some stuff... and there it is 30 mins shut down, fucking shit!! - My disability has a LOT to answer for, but this takes the cake when it fucks with my computers - it's the FIRST thing I check usually on any new/re-done PC, I REALLY wish MS would sort that shit out, if it's mining then it's obviously not idling for fucks sake!

 

Anyway, so all working fine again now, lol - getting around 640-660 H/s Upper GPU is not getting a great airflow as the mid-GPU is hogging it, so got one on 62C and one on 52C.. so it's all good it's not overheating or anything, and have the fans on 60%

3rd GPU should be coming next week, I have to get the mining rig frame done SOON!  at least I got this sorted today, and has a clear up of some stuff that's been due for a tidy for a while. Need to have a really good clear up of my computer spares though, couldn't find my bros extra cables for his PSU, so had to use a double molex to 6 pin, AND a SATA to 6 pin as I couldn't find those cables.. think they're in the loft but can't get up there right now because disability issues. Anyway, so had to alter my plan slightly, and have cancelled the p2 850 as it's not in stock for another 5-6 weeks, and have ordered another 650 G2 that;'s coming tomorrow £82... that should hold me for another few months, then I will just get a 600W white/GQ or whatever just to give the last 1 or 2 GPUs power, and serve as extra for the next mining rig if I go that far.. either way it's still a half decent price at £42... might change my mind before then though, lol.

Just a very brief one this time.

 

Just had a payout this morning at 11.34 and am already half way to next payout again. Still averaging around 630-650/660 with the 2* 1060s. Have the fans up on 65% but it's still not loud, I sleep with it in the room with me so that;s how non-loud this is

I could have it on a lower speeds easily, but prefer some headroom when cooling, especially with one of the GPUs having less airflow as it's blocked by the other GPU quite a lot. Still 65c isn't bad at all, the one that's getting fresh air is on 55c. I restarted my miner this time last night and this is the results

 

 

 

Hoping the next GPU comes soon, need to maximise those profits soon as can be of course, and buy more GPUs.

Anyone got any suggestions for a low value coin that's able to be mined with a 1050 (non-ti) on windows please?

 

I have been searching today, and it's hellish trying to find one the a) works with a 1050  and b) doesn't have you jumping through hoops for an hour and a half only to find out it doesn't work for some reason.

 

Did (b) today, tried to mine Trz IIRC, that was hell-ishly over complicated when it shouldn't have needed to be really. Also did a little mining with the CPU + gpu with nicehash, but the CPU didn't actually do anything for some reason even though I ran their tests and they said the 1700 was good for mining. Might try that again if I don't find anything else.

 

I just want to mine some low value coins to hold basically. Then maybe find something else also that can make a little money for when my main PC is idling, thank you for any suggestions

Still single mining Eth to hold for the long game. There are ups and downs but I don't want to fragment efforts over a multitude of wallets and get hit with fees trying to convert/consolidate it all.

 

Currently just using 3x Radeon V64 LC's till some rad screws arrive for the newest build and I can get the cooling down pat on it.

I would actually suggest adding the 1050 to your zcash mining. It pulls a decent 200 sols/s. Other than that, maybe monero or electroneum.

Yeah, I did think of that, but the 1050 only gets around 150 sol/s, it's not the ti model... I mean yes it still adds up, but I want coins to hold for long term instead of cashing out once per month or a bit longer with the mining rig.

I'll have a bash at monero etc, or at least research them more.

I don't mind the actual config being convoluted as such, it's when the research doesn't go anywhere like finding out you CAN'T mine that with a 1050 after researching it for like an hour or more, LOL

Wohoo, get my 3rd card tomorrow, glad I bought them when I did before the price hikes again... they have now gone up another £40, so £292 approx for a 1060 6GB, although you can still get the mini versions for 252, which is what I paid for the full versions. Looks like next cards will be more expensive for me then, even if I can find any... might have to buy some used 970/980 instead maybe.

 

Anyone switched back to ethereum because of the rise? I'm debating it, might switch back tomorrow after hooking my 3rd card up for a bit, see what the hash rates are. Although I think this is just a bubble and won't mine enough in the time it takes to drop back down again persoanlly in which case I might have just stayed with Zec, oh the decisions, LOL

I've been doing ETH as my main focus for about a month now, and have a balance of just under half an ETH. Been doing this with both my AMD and nvidia cards (not full time), even though according to calculators I should get better short term return if I put the green cards on other things.

 

Thing is, regardless of the rise in ether value, the ether return is about constant. If that is worth more, great, but I'm seeing this as my accumulation phase. Get it now, work out what to do with it when I have enough to seriously worry about it! I suppose if you weren't looking at holding ether, now might be a good time to mine as you can exchange it for more of other coins than if the price were lower. I think when I started it wasn't even 500USD.

Don't forget, if other think the same way as you, they'll put their farms to ETH mining and the difficulty will increase because of that. If you do plan on mining ETH, don't use nanopool as they're known for, again, stealing hashrates. I suggest Ethermine pool.

Have added my 3rd GPU now, the actual adding was fine, but had to un-install and then re-install graphics drivers, was getting the dreaded nvml.dll not found blah blah... typical, anyway sorted that out but took me longer because of that so had around 60 mins downtime of the rig.

 

Now getting approx 940-960 Sol/s, which should take my payout down to approx every 16 hours.. but I may increase that value.

With the price of GPUs currently I may leave it a few months before buying any more cards, or buy used as I said before. Also, I might decide to mix some AMD cards in there too, IIRC there are some mining progs that allow that? or maybe you can run 2 mining progs simultaneously, one for nvidia and one for AMD?

 

I have an "interesting" solution I am working on for my mining rig.. I haven't seen anyone else doing it, so may be the first, if it works that is, lol. I'll post details and pics once I have it sorted out, should be next few days or next week at most.

 

Thank you again for the suggestions/info guys - I am still learning and appreciate it, at least it gives me a direction to focus my attention on at the very least. I will have a look at monero and some others to see if my 1050(non-ti) can do anything worthwhile. I am using that as my "test" rig so to speak, this way I can encounter and hopefully deal with any problems so that my actual mining rig doesn't have too much downtime.

Just thought I'd share the above, this is since 13.10 this afternoon my time (so approx 9.5 hours) when the acreencap was taken.

Look at those temps, lol... still have them in the case ATM, the bottom one is king here, getting the nice fresh air, middle is worst as it's sandwiched right behind the bottom one and has a gap of no more than 10-15mm, and the top has about twice that gap, but is still only 4C cooler than the worst one.

I am waiting on some parts from Amazon right now, they pulled a switcharoo on me, when I ordered the stuff it said would be delivered tomorrow (fri), now on info panel it says saturday, so am gonna call them tomorrow as they've changed the due date. Once I get the stuff I'm waiting on I can start building the "frame" and get these GPU's some more air and slow their fans down again somewhat. Still not bad though considering they are IN a CASE AND sandwiched together quite badly.

Yeah, looks interesting.. wondering if I could do it alongside my ccminer mining GRLC. Would be even better if I could do it on my server with like 8TB free right now IIRC. If it's worth it would add more even as I'll always need more space. I might install debian on my backup server and give it a try, run it from a spare USB so I don't use any HDD space on it, and separate it from my server storage, so I can swap between them when I need to backup, then swap back.

I'm still mainly on ETH for awhile with my rigs. The difficulty is getting pretty crappy with it at the moment (over 2x since early december) Right now its a coin i believe in and i'm fairly sure we will see 2000usd with it this year easy.. I do have a rig i'm testing with other stuff, i have pulled back from ETN, right now i'll hold the many coins i have of that to see where it goes, but when i mined i'm still ahead even with market downturns. Will be keeping an eye open on Ravencoin and a few others i'll be pointing my one play rig at to test waters like normal.

 

Also toying with the idea of going to a dual xeon server board with a large storage array to take a poke at CPU mining and Burst. Not really to make a profit at it, more or less just to play with hardware i have never really touched. But with Spring only being a couple months out, most of my mining focus will be turned off as other 'summer' projects come into play so not sure if i will get it setup by then or not.

I actually switched to mining Zencash on both my 1060 and 980 Ti. I took a look on whattomine.com and apparently, Zencash is more profitable than Zcash so I switched over to mining Zencash on Suprnova on both my rigs. Been getting a few more dollars than what I was getting when mining Zcash so there's that.
