8700K Build with SLI 1070Ti

Scarecrow1337

so im building a PC for streaming and gaming and running two monitors, and also doing other stuff as well.. I'm going with a 8700K,Asus Hero Maximus, 32GB Crucial Elite 2666, 2x 1070TI, 512GB 960 Pro, 2TB WD Black, Asus Raid DLX SC.

heres what I'm running into, I read up that the 8700K has only 16 lanes, vs 40 lanes... correct me if I'm wrong.. so if I was to run 2 GPUs and a NVME SSD will I have enough lanes to run all hardware without bottlenecking my system, or will I have to get rid of the NVME drive to get full 16 lanes on both GPUs...

can someone enlighten me on the CPU.. also plz do not recommend any hardware builds because I already bought all hardware and do not want this post turned into a HW recommendation thread.

Dont use 2 1070ti. Just get a 1080ti.

Also NVMe drives arent better than SAT SSDs in shortening boot speed and opening apps. Just use an 850 evo of large capacity.

The cards will run @ x8, the NVMe will get its lanes from the chipset.

the NVME drive is used as a scratch disk and temp storage for video editing and recording while all other data is stored on a SSD raid setup that I all ready have.. while the 2tb is for everything else. I can't get a 1080ti in my area because its either out of stock or wy overpriced.. I have 2 1070ti and I'm ok with that...... once again I have all hardware on hand.... got a question though.. if I swap to a older motherboard(same socket duh) and do a bios update, and use a board that has less NVME slots and less Sh88 all together.. will that open up more lanes or its the CPU its self that only has 16 lanes? or just say F&*( it and get a Enthusiast platform?

You won't get 16x to both cards, but honestly it doesn't really matter. You won't be saturating the 8x anyway. IIRC only the new Titan X V can saturate 16x. The NVME will run off the chipset, the others the CPU. Though, I'd check to make sure that it has enough lanes for the sound card as well. As others have said the 1070Ti in SLI isn't a great option, but hopefully you can make it work since you already have it.

Welcome to the forum :)

They are though. Not hugely, and if it's a lower budget system I wouldn't recommend it, but there are benefits to having an NVME drive. The price differences between the two are closing.

So you're storing your games on the 2TB as well? Odd choice.

Enthusiast platform? I thought you already had the parts and you didn't want this to turn into a parts thread :P

You can't use the 8700k on an older motherboard, so I'm not sure what you meant with that.

The NVME drive doesn't run off CPU lanes.
