you can replace the PSU, but there should be enough wattage for the RX 550.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Well the recommended watt is 400 for the 550 but i'm currently using the gt 430 and that takes like 43w

Is it soldered in or something? If not then sure.

Also, a GT 1030 performs alright and is only 30w if you're looking for another (potentially cheaper) option. I went with a 1050 personally which is better than both cards.

220w should be enough.

I know the gt 1030 performs "fine" but the 550 is more for the money MaxBunny.

okay well thanks Herman! Problem solved?

should be enough wattage, if it doesn't work you can replace the PSU with something like this:

Doesn't it use proprietary connectors? I don't think you can... without adapters.

a google search for the 790 sff's psu says it uses standard connectors, so no worries there.

If I were you, Id probably spring for the psu mcpootis linked. Then spring for a sff 1050 ti like this https://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-ZT-P10510E-10L-Zotac-Graphics-Card/dp/B06XCXGVGR/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1512977588&sr=8-4&keywords=mini+1050+ti

( looks like it'll fit, double check the demensions of your case though.)

i'm wondering what PSU I can get instead of having the standard 240w PSU in the optiplex 790 SFF. I'm considering getting a gtx 1050ti if I can get a PSU with atleast 400w. Help greatly appreciated!

even the 240w unit will be fine with a 1050ti.

the seasonic 300w TGW will work fine if you insist on an upgrade though.

I'm running an Optiplex 780 SFF with an overclocked Q6600 and an overclocked low-profile GTX 750 Ti on the stock PSU. No problems at all. My other sleeper gaming rig has an i7-6700T (it's previously had an i5-6500) and a GTX 1050 Ti running on a 300W PSU, again, no problems. You're good. Generally speaking, Optiplex PSUs tend to be good for the rated wattage. Lots of Optiplexes are leased or purchased with extended service plans, which means that Dell has a very real incentive to not load them up with Bestec PSUs that will go "bang" the first time you try to plug a discrete GPU in.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Hi, I'm wodering if this power supply https://www.amazon.com/quiet-TFX-Power-300W-Gold/dp/B00I607LG2 will fit in my dell optiplex 790 SFF, I have an idea to put in a GTX 1050 ti, I also wonder if there's enough watt for the graphics card. PS. I live in Sweden, so if you find anything better, please check if it has international shipping. Thx in advance

Those don't appear to be the same form factor, no. Look at the location of the fan and the location of where the cables come out.
